Z31

Should be fine like any other RWD car.

What are the prices like now, they've got a pretty cool retro look IMO.

It looks awesome 3.0 v6 turbo few custom parts I'd be surprised if he ain't a member on here
He wants to swap (should of said swap instead) for my r33 so cudnt tell ya what it's going for wish someone cold tell me what there worth tbh

That black SWB z31 that was on here before looks pretty special but I'm not sure how or if that was skidded. Certainly the LWB z31 isn't worth bothering with as a serious drift car in my opinion unless your looking to spend a whole load of cash on modifying the crap out of it. Stock the z31 is overweight, underpowered and has a tendency to rot like a bitch.

I've had three over the years, the engine blew on the one (grey NA) the other rotted away beyond repair (again it was NA) and the other just didn't work (turbo version). After stripping the shite out of it I skidded the grey NA for an hour or so over a few days before the engine blew, but to be honest what was achieved wasn't really worthy of the term 'skidded' in part due to my own personal skills but largely due to the fact that it just had no grunt.

With a better driver, some serious weight loss and maybe an SR conversion (or something with a bit more power) I could see potential but there are far better alternatives out there for the amount of money it would cost to achieve

The old red one that I had literally just rotted away

I'd personally like to see somebody build and skid a SWB z31 but as I said I believe that the investment needed would put most people off.

Looks a mess, ie a drift car.

Should drift fine, engines are awesome, used in many many successful world class race cars.

Clearly I had three duff engines then as personally I thought they were wank (though to be fair they were all around the 90-100k miles mark) I'd be very surprised if the VG30ET was/is still running anywhere near the 240bhp that Wikipedia is currently quoting and it certainly wasn't anything like a GTP race engine

by the looks of it the VG30ET used for the GTP race car was very loosely based on the production engine

Quote:
The GTP ZX-Turbo was named due to its shared engine with the production Nissan 300ZX, the turbocharged VG30ET V6. Although the engine block was similar, the GTP ZX-Turbo's engine was extensively modified to cope with the stress of racing.

I'm sure it could be improved drastically and I do recall there being a few decent US z31 builds, however UK examples are by and large stock, relatively underpowered and riddled with tin worm

The IMSA engines were actually no more modified from standard than any highly modified road engine, they are strong as FUCK.

Stock rods good for 700bhp.
Stock crank good for 1000bhp and 9000rpm.
Ported 12V heads capable of 1000bhp.
And so on.

They has been some welding on the bottom of the car , Its from the 80's and made by nissan it was never gonna be perfect. The front bumper and splitter have paint missing in places. ec

What you guys think

The list looks ok mate but I'd be inclined to go and take a proper look at it in person in daylight and be brutally honest with yourself when you're there. Look beyond the paint and check for rot underneath the rear bumper, around the rear light area in general and inside the wheel arches.
Assuming that any problematic rust areas have been sorted/welded then I'd personally say it's worth between £1500-£1800 and that's based on the fact that it has an AVCR fitted (assuming it's the newer type and that it's working) and that it's fitted with TEIN coil overs (again assuming they aren't shot to shit).

Of course if z31 prices have rocketed in the last few years then disregard my last but I don't see it being worth anything like £2500

That's just my opinion of course

Ohh sh#t, I rememeber seeing this for sale a while back, suuuuuper cool man, how many do you see rocking it these days? Z31's rock sooooo hard! I'd go for it mate, you'll be smiling whenever you whip it, and you'll be smiling harder when it becomes (not if it becomes) one of a hand full left!

True it's just I don't wanna risk getting it then when time comes to sell if it won't sell il be left with it that's the only thing really

In my opinion, a decent drift car is just a car that can be bought, drifted and repaired for not too much money. A lot of people buy S14s / 13s or Skylines without really thinking about it, just because they've seen them drift on the internet. I've had an S14, and while it did drift pretty well, and there is a good used parts base, etc., they are much more expensive and prone to breaking than things like BMW E36s, that just go on forever taking abuse. Basically, if the car is rear wheel drive, and you can buy it and drift it within your means, do it. That's only if drifting for the sake of drifting alone is your priority. But I think it's good if you can also drive your car on the street and generally live with it and love it, so in that case it's maybe better to buy a car that you also enjoy the looks of as well. It's a all about fun at the end of the day. :)
