17x9 +20 Weds SA90 *NEW*

Right, the wheels are the same. They're made in a factory in Taiwan and the ones that come to the UK get Ultralite on them and the ones that Weds buy get shipped to Japan before being finished, thus enabling Weds to paint a blue line on them, write whatever they want on them and label them "made in Japan". Just like MOMO, OZ etc etc are "made in Italy" ie, they're shipped to Italy and then finished in their way.

We've had 8x17 and 9x17 Ultralite's in but it was only the last of a batch mad for Weds that were sat in a warehouse and we happened upon them, so we bought them up. We could get a regular supply of them but that means buying 120 of each size, colour in order that the factory will "tool up" and make them. They won't just make 20 or something, has to be 120 of each.

Hope that clears up for you all :)

How come the spokes are different between the Weds and Ultralite?

I'm not disputing the fact that they are made by the same folk but they clearly aren't exactly the same wheel, look at them side by side and although similar the spoke design is different.

TBH I prefer the Weds, not only due to design but due to the fact they are rarer and half of SXOC doesn't own a set :D

So do the new ultralites ones have WED on the inside of the spoke?, as I guess its in the mold if they there were same they would have to? Unless they have another mold for whatever reason.
If its anything like the bike industry just because they look the same even use the same mold the difference can be massive due stuff like forging processes, materials, heat treating etc etc
I have seen 'identical copies' fail were a genuine product wouldn't have been stressed.
Alex

The factory uses the same mould to produce both lines, it just adds a little something into the mould for Weds, like the "weds" lettering.

They're both squeeze cast but Weds do offer a forged version on their website, just like we could order 789's as a forged wheel, if we want to buy enough of them that is

FFS this is hilarious, how can anyone with functioning eyeballs say they are the same?

This is my point, the wheel designs are clearly different so they aren't from the same mould! 'Insider knowledge yo'

Errrrm.... because I have a set and they look IDENTICAL to yours. The photo you have put up of the ultralites is a shit one, hence the inability to make a direct comparison. Wait 5 mins and I will go out and take a pic of my Ultralites and then see what you think :)

Not perfect but you can see better than the pic you posted

erm .... lol .... are you blind ?

y'see where it says Wedsports racing wheel on the real ones ? ... its not just stuck on a the flat of the rim, its a routed section of the rim .. the ultralites just don't have this section ... the spoke joins on to the flat of the rim. Difficult to explain in words but there you have it.

I don't think anybody is denying they look similar .. and Mr San would appear to be "in the know" however there is so many differences between the wheels i fail to see how they just make a few "adjustments" to the mould.

Clearly a different wheel where the spoke meets rim.

I wouldn't care if it was the same rim (which I'm thinking its not due to them not looking the same  ), the fact still remains Ultralite are only available in cockmuncher sizes :euge:

I seem to remember Ultralite selling Superlite knock offs in all the mini mags a few years back too. Surprise surprise they claimed that minilite/superlites etc where actually copies of THEIR rims :wack:

Yeah completly different.

Ive got a set of TSW blades, does anybody want to buy them if i pretend there r33gtr rims :wack:

yeah but they're still copies tho :D

and not very good ones at that ...coz they don't look like the wheels they're meant to be a copy of :D :D :D

1. If they were completely identicle, it would prob piss Weds off and I'm guessing Ultralite choose not to shit where they eat.
2. If I were a brand whore, I'd buy a liner. :wack:
3. As already said, I can replace these in a week, Weds take 4 months.
4. These look better cause the spoke goes all the way to the edge
5. And most important, each to their own.
:D

Hang on hang on, not wanting to continue an argument BUT -

1.)Earlier we were told from you and SRB that they came from the same mould therefore they should be identicle? Also you said Ultralite made Weds so surely Ultralite couldn't piss Weds off by them being the same?

and

3.)No they don't :D

but

5.)True. We weren't disputing the Ultralites are more common and cheaper, but we were disputing point 1.

Aaaathankyou. :euge:

Had dropped this but....
They come from the same mould with a few changes, obviously that is one of them. Ultralite make wheels for Weds, they don't own Weds, they are not Weds, Like Vulk making rims for Nismo, they look basically identical, but if Vulf made something completely 100% the same as the Nismo versions, Nismo would be pissed. :)

Even if it is less than 4 months, it's a lot longer than the two days it takes to get Ultralites replaced. :)

I don't really care, I'm just being argumentative :) If it's that important, someone who isn't me or Dan should phone Ultralite. :)
