Altezza Greddy Turbo Upgrade Choices?

Hi, i currently have an altezza greddy turbo kit installed on my 3S-GE that made 250ish bhp, the tuning company who remapped my car recommended a bigger turbo to get to the 300bhp mark, i was curious if anyone could recommend an alternative turbo that will easily replace the Greddy TD04 that it currently has without too much other modification and work. He recommended a GT2871R but will require other kinds of work like different downpipe flanges and stuff to get it to fit.

Any advice will be appreciated.

What model TD04 is it, if it's off something like an Impreza then you might be able to easily slap on a common turbo upgrade that those guys use.

IIRC they usually go TD05 for more power, I think it's a straight swap for them.

Received wisdom is that first port(s) of call before bolting a new turbo on should be bigger injectors (at least 600cc), bigger fuel pump and decent engine management should see you to circa 300bhp at 10-12psi. You'll probably be at 5-7psi with your current tune I would have thought?

Edit: Also, will then need to start thinking about supporting mods (clutch, cooling etc).

I have 550cc SARD Injectors, uprated Tomei fuel pump, and Apexi Ecu with FC commander, Lightened flywheel and uprated exedy Clutch. Engine was also health checked and had perfect compression across all 4 cylinders. It was mapped on the weekend and steadily hits 10psi according to my Greddy boost controller but can sometimes reach 11-12psi. Dyno print out was around 250ish, i asked what i should do to get 300bhp he reckons a better fuel pressure regulator as mine kept dropping pressure, and a bigger turbo.

Why can't he just wind it upto 17psi and map on that turbo?
I assume you've got a big FMIC as well yea?

Careful where you go for an FPR, they're one of the most copied things out there, I'm sure over half the SARD ones you see are fake.

Fuel Performance have a good selection, they stock a load of Fuel Lab kit that should see you right

Yeah got Greddy FMIC, according to the remapping guy these TD04's aint much good after about 260bhp, crank them up too much he said exhaust side starts getting too hot and stuff, he said eveything else will be fine just change pressure regulator and turbo, so was hoping to get an easy replacement turbo.

You can't run high boost on the engine because of its high compression.
As some one already said a td05 might be a good choice, I know one fella has one on his Altezza and it made over 300bhp. I've a funny feeling a garrett gt28 turbo fouls the head when fitted on the Greddy manifold too.
Changing the flange on the down pipe should be that big of a job either
I ordered my sard FPR from rhd Japan. Was that expensive and most ones on eBay are fake from what I've been told.

My altezza was over 300hp
Had a td04 on it at 1.1 bar.
The worst bit about the greddy kit is the design of the manifold and the downpipe.
Cylinder 3 gets really hot due to pressure build up and the downpipe is extremely restrictive as soon as exhaust gases leave the turbo.

My engine had a thick headgasket and when I had a boroscope inside it I'm pretty sure it was forged.
It ran at 22psi faultlessly when a pipe split.

Yeah i heard about that with high compression, Nick Chiew who supplies greddy kits recommended a Garrett GT2860RS, He said it will provide similar spool at lower RPM but gives a lot more top end power. The Garrett GT2860RS uses the same T25 inlet flange so the turbo will bolt straight onto the manifold, you will however have to modify the dump pipe to suit the new 5-Bolt outlet which i was hoping to avoid.

Twiglett could you tell me what set up you had, and if you think my set up could make 300bhp, ive told the tuning place that ive seen a few altezza's push 280bhp or more with the greddy TD04 but they are convinced it will not be able to with that turbo, and the remapper expressed his concerns with the exhaust side getting way too hot.

If the design of the downpipe is crap then it's less of an need getting a straight replacement turbo, you are going to have to sort the downpipe issue out anyway so it might as well be done at the same time you swap to a different Turbo.

The GT2860RS is abit of an old Turbo, most people had been choosing the GT2871R over the RS, but more recently the GTX series has come out which might be well worth a look.

Owen Developments list a GTX2860R.

Yeah the remapping company recommended the GT2871R he said they use them a lot on Silvia's and GTIR pulsars, i would like that one its just dam expensive maybe i have no choice though.

I have a gt2871rs for sale.
It was going to go on the altezza but it was written off before I got the chance.

I know the Greddy manifold has the t25 fitmeant but I'm sure I read somewhere before that when you go to bolt a garrett gt28 turbo onto the Greddy manifold the turbo itself fouls the head of the engine. It's something you will need to look into as If it does then you would also need a custom manifold to run the garret turbo
