Another MX5 Project / daily

Wasn't sure whether to bother updating this thread but may as well I suppose.

Engine is now in & running. :D

I know it's not a big deal for most people on here but considering I'm not really much of a mechanic (I mostly fix computers, not cars) I'm quite chuffed that it's in and working. And apart from a bit of help from my parents to manoeuvre the old engine out & new one in, I did it all myself.

Insurance gets swapped over today, then I can tax it and test it on the road. If it's all ok I can start looking for the next Drift Inc day at Pembrey...

I've been driving this for a while now and it all seems good. Still paranoid about every little noise but so far so good.

The steering rack starting leaking everywhere so I had to replace it. I got the rack gaiters replaced and a full 4 wheel alignment done at Avia Autos in Bridgend too. Avia also raised the ride height a bit at the back because function>form. It handles a lot better now and looks less like a dog with worms scraping it's back end across the floor.

I've also fitted a Larini Systems backbox. It sounds awesome :) They made the exhaust for one of the batmobiles apparently which is cool to tell my son.

Drift Inc practice day booked for the 20th.

Pembrey was awesome.
The car behaved perfectly, even sat in the queues in what must have been near 30c temps with big engined monsters pumping out hot exhaust gases in my poor car's face.

I joined in with the judged runs, not expecting much but I did manage to get 7 points lol :smokin:

Managed to get grass stuck between wheel & tyre which was pretty funny.

The marshalls, organisers, other drivers and photographers all did an awesome job and the atmosphere was really good.

I'm still a complete newbie but it felt like I was getting better and starting to work out what works and what doesn't.
Managed not to do any damage other than knocking my stuck-on number plate off when I went up a bank.

Did another Pembrey day...

And I'm still crap but got a little better towards the end.
(probably could have edited that differently to make me look better)
:o

Hi.
How long did the engine bay clean up, and engine change take you ?.
I need to take my engine and gearbox out, because i have got to replace front chassis sections, and think it would be a good idea to get rid of any rust and repaint the engine bay before the engine and gearbox goes back in.

Hi, it took me ages because between work & kids I didn't get much free time- always just a couple of hours each weekend. It was the first time I'd done anything like that too. I think I ended up doing it over a month or two but plenty of people do it in one day. I think I did the engine bay cleanup& painting over a couple of afternoons.
