Antilag for drifting?

I've probably seen 3 or 4 cars trying to use Antilag in drifting in the past few years, but never with good results. I must say that the Cartu Drifting 2JZ powered BMW M3 E46 GTR is probably the first one to do well with Antilag. 700 horsepower, but going for 1000 (GT42), and aiming to be the number 1 drift car in Europe. But enough of the talking, just watch the video:

No antilag? Just what looks like an 80's porn star bouncing around in a bucket seat?

*which is a good thing

I have anti-lag system in my sr20det s14 . It is set to keep 0,3 bar pressure, and even this means a lot. Instant throttle response, have to kick teh clutch less, since the engine now is stronger in lower rpms aswell. I have a thread about it you can look it up.

I had anti lag in a RWD car id skid around before 'drifting' was popular, 01-03, could see as high as 29psi off throttle, but anything was enough tbh, and yes, makes a huge huge difference, the same differences going from a 2ltr turbo to a 6ltr n/a makes with the same power- massive throttle response and power delivery changes, like night and day.

Noise and flames are NOT what shows how effective ALS is, some of the noisiest craziest ones I've seen do nothing but the noise. Fuck, MOST I've seen on road based cars are just for the noise. Most don't even run anything proper to get the air bypassing the throttle, so no ECU tricks in the world will make it work.

Because of that outside videos prove nothing.

Show me the boost gauge while off throttle slowing for a corner and that's what proves its working good or not.

He's deffo rocking ALS in the 2nd video Milez.

And tbh the way it seems to instantly smoke the tyres from whats clearly totally off throttle and no clutch kick, like a V8 does, I'd say his works pretty tidy...

Does seem to hook up well, still doesn't say much.
A vid like you say would be good.

That M3 either has a well setup ALS or it's just running insane power even off boost, not relying on a massive turbo for big numbers, smokes the tyres with no clutch kick as sooon as he is on the power

EDIT - Stav beat me to it.

Here's an onboard video of the thing:

It was running a GT35 if I'm not wrong at that event, but it's switching to GT42 and going up to 1000 for the next round which is next week in France, Bordeaux, if you want to come

Look at the throttle (well, smoke) response on that last video, literally on/off instantly, don't get that aside from v8s, id say his ALS is working as I described in my first post- #6

No such thing as "insane power off boost" and its a 700hp 2JZ, of course it's using massive turbo?

Baffling post.

To be fair, while none of the videos 'prove' anything, the simple fact that done properly it's function is to give so much instantaneous performance you'd have no traction. It's not what you want in racing, but that's what happens running at it's fullest.
This sounds stupid, but it's true. Exactly the same as why running a stupid torque V8 in something that's traction limited makes it far slower as it can't put any of the power down.
It's why V8s running centrifugal superchargers almost always run faster times on road tyres than ones with the same peak power but running turbos or a positive displacment charger- The last 2 create so much more torque it's a wanker to get the power down, wheras centri chargers give a smooth power delivery that means decent traction.

All serious rally and rallycross cars running ALS have it on a switchable dial for severity, as if the surface isn't grippy enough, having it working full on means instant wheelspin.
Someone I know actually never ever used his rally car with it on full as it was totally unusable, lol.

So yeah, while the videos here may 'prove' nothing, simple fact is if done properly it'd be a big bonus.
