Wanted Beginners Drift/Track Car for a budget.

Hi all, so I don't usually post on forums (just troll around) but I think I should get some proper advice on the subject.

So, the story goes, me and my Dad are both really into cars. We have discussed getting a track/drift car, and he has allocated me a £1500 budget to find one.

I have looked into S12 and S13, but I don't think I am going to be able to get enough power out of them without spending lots of money on one.
So I started looking at BMWs, specifically the E36 328i and the E36 M3. I have found various 328s, and one Cat D M3 (was hit in the passenger front quarter panel).

I think that the Cat D M3 might be the best way to go because we will be thrashing it and we don't really care how it looks, but I wanted some advice on it as it is alot of money to spend, any help is welcome.

Thanks, Scott.
:)

Hi there, is there any reason why you say 328 over the M3? The 328 has about 190 HP but the 3L M3 comes with 286 HP and an LSD if I remember rightly, thanks for your input, Scott.

328i for half that money. Buy an LSD and fit it, or get a quicker open diff and weld it. Service it and spend the rest of the money to go and use it. I did pretty much that (Opted for LSD as I wanted to use it for non-drift track days also) then took it further after using it for a while.

Cheers for your input, I think I might look into doing this! :)

A £1500 M3 would be a bit of a dog Id have thought, just buy an MX5 and have bucketloads more fun on track than in your 1500kg 4 door executive express. :)

Welded diffs are better then open ones (and some LSD'd) for grip driving too BTW :)

Interesting... any LSD's you wouldn't recommend then...

Thanks for your input Docwra, but I'm afraid and MX5 is most likely out of the question, it's a 2 door coupe, and my Dad has ruled them out ("Hairdressers Car" my Dad so affectionately calls them) I'll do some research on them though, cheers, Scott.

Your Dad is a misguided fool then ;) ;)

As many will tell you round here MX5's are very good track cars and surprisingly quick with it, I couldnt catch Jay in his at Mallory and probably had 150hp on him. They also drift pretty damn good too, the hairdresser thing is frankly a bit :euge: these days :)

Which LSD's wouldnt I recommend? Worn ones that dont lock properly ;)

Show him this picture... It may work...

Also you could find a nice stock one really cheap... have seen some go for around £700-800.
Or could opt for one that is already built up a bit for around your budget.

hi mate im thinking about selling my drift car i have not even done a day in it yet due my situattion it has to go, its a non vanos 1992 325i coupe full m-tech kit lock spacers fully polly bushed coilovers welder camber top mounts wide 5 spokes rolled arches 99k full history and lots of bills 12 months mot 6 months tax full black leather this really is a very clean car no rot???

MX5's are wank, 328's are awesome purely because you can put 12 wheels in them and they actually have some go

I tried all this get an mx5 malarky recently and they are gutless just like i expected
