Bin the RB20DET bring on the RB26DETT

I'm getting fecking fed up of the RB20DET, people keep telling me how amazing it is and how hard it is :no:

HAVE YOU EVER TRIED TO BUY AND PERFOMACE BIT FOR IT, its a fucking joke!

i'm getting to the point were if i don't get a contact to get half of the bits for the engine i'm going to bit this fucker. :mad:

How much is a RB26DETT and running gear?? i don't want massive power i just want silly fast responce....

could iget on of these out of a BNR34 for £5K?? or more :O

I now have a full RB26DETT bottom end now so i would be agood spare when i throw a few rods out the side of the block :D

So how much, i'll make the bastard fit into the S13 :wack:

ha, it needs an rb25 box and custom sump fitting as the front diff is in the sump, its way more work as standard it wont go in
 
sorry ant :wack: i do like the engine, but its pissing me off, i have the bottom end off a GTR now, the one i told you about.

But i can't get parts for it and its really pissing me off.

I don't know what to do.

I want to use this engine as its revy :D but not if bit are so hard to come by that i will spend 3 months getting bits when it blows up.
 
i will have a chat to you some other day, gotta go work in a bit and am nackered, stick with the 20, i will have one soon so will know what can be done
 
Well every part i want to upgrade people just say "get it off the RB26DETT" its going to be basicly a RB20DET :wack:

I wanted a plenum like the RB26DETT, so i've got to get one of those and chop it up as Greddy don't make one and the only other one are crap ones that have been home made, i've been speaking to a mate i've made in oz and he has had alot of experience with the RB20DET and he said the money i'm planing to spend on my engine i may as well get a RB26DETT and do the conversion, i can leave the engine near standard that way :D

I don't know what i want to do, i've carlmed down somewhat now, i've emailed so many company about parts and it comes back with responces like "we make them for the RB25DET and the RB26DETT but sadly not the RB20DET"

This is what was stressing me out, i think the RB20DET would be an amazing engine if i can hold of the parts.

I have GTR CRank and rods now, i was looking at a set of tomie pistons at 82mm Dia.

But i know you said ant that the cranks are interchangeable, but you can not put a GTR crank in as it will not clear the bottom of the block with out heavy mods :wack: :no:
 
i said it would fit, something from another engine is never going to be an easy swap, once i get my gtst i shal see what i can do with it. it wouldnt be fun if it didnt need work to fit
 
Sorry maybe i'm going a little over the top, but it just did my head in today trying to get parts that don't exsist, lol

How about (don't laugh) could i put the head and shit onto the RB26DETT block??

That would make an amazing engine if it could be done :D

Its needs the crank modding and the bottom of each cylinder, then teh crank need to be rebalanced :D

I'm going to phone around and see what i can get done with it :D

82mm pistons from tomie rasie the displacment to 2.2 anyways :D

I've been told that the best plenum to use is the stock one, anything else will slow it down.

what power are you aiming for Rich?
Gotta be quite a lot for the standard plemun to need changing....

No, its not the fact that i want more power, its fitting, as i've got the S15 front on my S13 the bonnet is at a steeper angle and the standard one just fits if you drop the engine, so its going to crash into the plenum, so i need a front one like on the RB26DETT.

Also FMIC will be plumbed in stupid, pipes would have to go back across the engine.

It would be a waste of money to spend so much on a nice front mount to run 2 miles of pipe work.

hmm i recon a bit of work with the tig and a bit of flowing to make sure it works well i can blag the plenum on there, what about the ones on ebay tho ?
 
By the way, that middle pic you posted is of Matt_S's old S13. Its an RB25 and he got the plenum from Sub-Zero is Oz.
