Cooling and Coolant

Oh, there we go then, if you're getting an issue now when you didn't before, there's a problem somewhere.

People still run cars on just water?

The corrosion that can build up in a water system by using water on it's own looks like shit and shows a poorly maintained cooling system tbh.

Coolant among other things is there to stop the corrosion (provided the right one is used) if it's changed on schedule you should never have any problems with your cooling system liquid whatever the weather or usage.

You should check your coolant flow, I don't know about Skyline fans but if your not losing coolant the issue points to restriction in your system either through a less than efficient pump, partially blocked/low effective rad or a faulty stat.

Halfords coolant won't be the cause of your problems, not unless you've been putting the wrong stuff in for a long period of time and then it would be the above that it has demised along with rusting your your passage ways.

Don't switch to water to solve your problem, that's for sure and don't be fooled into paying to whack for coolant unless you're proper beating it out all the time, cheap stuff will be more than sufficient in a healthy system, from my experience.

+1 on not belieling that peple still run their cars on just water.

I've used any random cheap antifreeze I could fing on all of my cars i.e. BMW, Skyline, WV etc. Everything worked perfect and didn't overheated once. In fact, on my R32 I still use my shit n/a rad with welded holes (lol) and broken bits, and it never overheated, even when temperature was more than +30*C on a drift day. Reasonable driving with lots of cooling laps etc helps like hell.

I was told at my old job that you can mix green, blue and similair colours, but never red and yellow. In uni we were told that you cannot mix anything. I did added a little bit of green A/F to girlfiends Polo with red A/F to stop overheating due to extreme low level of coolant, nothing bad happened, nothing's clogged etc, but that's because it's a very basic engine.
Personally I use green A/F because almost all of my cars had green A/F before me.

after having a read and a chat with some people looks like a new water pump, high flow thermostat and a remap are all in order. Probably have a look at one of those kits to test for head gasket failure too, just in case. Ive not got jizz, smoke or any fluid loss so fingers crossed its fine :)
