Daily/drifter of dedicated drifter?

Going back to the point of the thread- I rarely have a dedicated drifter, they're almost always my dailys.

Never wrote one off yet, done a few engines, but that's it. And it's been a long time.

BUT they are cars I'm not fussed about keeping mint, as that's impossible, I happily run battered drifters as dailys.

Youve also got more than one car at a time mate, not sure Id risk it if it was my only transport to work and back .........

Atm mate I keep it on the drive did have a lock up but don't trust it.
Dedicated is better in an ideal world but pros and cons in everything..
I think your doing the best thing mate, get car, weld diff, pump up rear tyres and go track is the basics. Everything else are extras you can build up over time if you feel you need/want to.

How does the car fare sitting outside? I suppose if it got used regular enough it'd be fine. I just dont want to leave mines sitting outside for long periods of time if it was a dedicated drifter, just say the word 'salt' or 'moisture' around an s-body and it starts falling apart haha.

What Stavros said is my general thinking, i always have at least a £500 cushion for any flat or car repairs that jump up on me, so if i smashed it really bad then id just need to go for a daily banger.

That's the car booked in for a welded diff. Just need to fit my tow straps and i'll be ready for some slidey action. Got talking to a pretty decent guy at a garage in EK who's into his drifting as well so got some tips off him. He actually won the driftland E36 raffle car, jammy git lol.

I don't have a garage where I am so it's either the drive or a lock up and I'd rather it out side where I can see it rather than miles away.
It seems to be ok outside atm but it is t&t so I can drive on road if I want to.
If it was literally going track to home I'd probably just jet it off and cover it.
It just comes down to doing the best you can with what you got.

That's exactly it mate. Your personal situation dictates what you can do. Iv been harassing my council for a lock-up outside my flat, would be ideal to get one as im looking at doing a bike licence as well.

Well. A long 3 week part time shift during my annual leave has meant iv been able to do naff all. Iv hopefully got a welded diff on its way (gonna keep mines in case im rubbish and give up haha). Got some oil+water temp/oil pressure stack gauges on their way to monitor things as well. I took it out tonight to a dead quite industrial estate with roundabouts and corners that you can transition off as i havent driven it properly for a while..... Man i suck lmao. Need to get to crail as i managed to kerb my new rota :( muppet.

yeah man do the SXOC Crail day, and get on the big track ASAP cos its much easier to learn to drift on than the oval IMO. I still remember learning to drift there in my daily 200sx a few years ago, and just getting out there and trying things was the best advice i got. (as long as you dont get in people's way haha).

Once you get the hang of drifting into and out of corners, then try linking the oval. After that, the ultimate aim is to try linking the big circuit (its so satisfying though, because its so wide and long and tricky to keep a continuous manji drift going all the way around :D)

I bought an s14a and tryed to build a drifter and keep it comfortable after I stuck an r33 wielder and apex engine mounts in, I gave up and bought a little astra van as a daily, car was getting ruined with miles and is just for fun now. And if I crash it I can still get to work lol plus I use the van to pick up parts, tyres and do odd jobs along with 50mpg cant go wrong really :)

Im currently sorting a date to do my CBT and get a bike licence to get to and from work and im also hounding my council for a lockup as i cant leave a bike on the street where i live lol. Which would be ideal as i could keep both the car and bike in.

I think my current (shocking) skill level wont dictate having an awesomely set-up car, but possibly down the line itll become more of a dedicated drifter than road car. With my current shifts and part time work im getting a lot of money for the car but cant drive it haha. Typical. Ill be going to the Crail drift day in july with the SXOC, all i seem to be doing is talking about drifting as opposed to actually doing it :( and working :(

just say the word 'salt' or 'moisture' around an s-body and it starts falling apart haha.

This cracked me up

Get something nice and half decent. Avoid drifting on the road, just save it for track days etc until your atleast a bit more confident?

That way you save the hassle of two cars, and considerably lower the risk of damaging your daily

Well after nearly a year after deciding to use my rusty Datsun as a daily drifter I've done..... No drifting. At all. Woo. 4 weddings, one of which is to Turkey, flat renovations, general living and the most expensive thing a single man can ever do.. Acquire a girlfriend.. Have put things on hold.

It's not all bad though, got myself a welded auto diff, tow straps, spare front and rear bumpers and money set aside for a Driftworks ally rad. Once all the stags and weddings are paid off I'll finally have expendable income again and can maybe get myself to Driftland.

Before I do though, should I invest in some uprated rocker arm stoppers? I have some back pay coming which I'm using to fit my 555cc injectors and get a generic H-Dev stage 2 chip, while it's in the garage is it worthwhile getting RAS fitted?

Maybe one day I'll actually go drifting instead of talking about doing it

I've had experience of both. Personally when I used my mx5 as a daily drifter it was great that I could test stuff out and give it a good run before taking it to drift days etc.

But it was also annoying as fuck at times, like regardless of the I don't give a shit attitude. When I used to turn up at some places and people basically go "wtf is that piece of shit" it still gets embarrassing.

Not to mention when pottering about doing day to day stuff, rock hard suspension, loud exhausts and general shit gets boring quickly.

I've got a clean e36 as my daily, and had a previous s13 that was for fun. So much easier not worrying about shit breaking and if I'm going to make it home. Also gives me time to tackle big jobs without worry that I need the car the next morning for work.

I can understand that, at times I feel a bit self conscious in the 200 and thats before I've banged it up, although where I live it's all fanboys, even my crappy, slow 200sx has guys practically blowing you off when they see it. Fortunately I have recently transferred to a station a whole 1 mile from my flat so it takes the pressure off a bit if it's off the road for a while (yes I do still drive to work despite it being a stones throw from where I live) and means the only time I drive it far is when I want to give it a good run, so the suspension doesn't really bother me.

A clean E36!? Do they still exist after the creation of Driftland ha? I have a mate with a Navara and trailer who lives in Lowvalleyfield which is close to Driftland who can give me a tow should it all go wrong.

So as it sits I should really have no excuse for not doing it. I'm probably overthinking it and should just get my finger out and go for it. I'll post my updates on how I'm getting on!

They do indeed exist thank you very much...although they only way I found an unmolested one (admittedly it had gay headlights on it) was from a middle aged woman and it was auto so needed converting...literally people seem shocked that it hasn't got a single dent or patch of rust on the entire car lol.

Having a daily drifter is quite difficult tbh. I once had a daily drifter, reliable on the road, fun to drift. I was worried about every scratch, I was pissed when I scratched my side mirror.. but then I crashed it baad, and it beacame a missile .
