DriftFactory: Soarer 2JZGTE VVTi Engine Conversion

Hi Dale, just a little message to let you know your PM box is full. Just tried to send you a question about manual boxes....

Loving the conversion dude, very nice!

Same here, your inbox is full!
Im asking here instead:
Hi,
I was reading your project thread about the white Soarer.
Is it impossible to manual a VVTI engine without standalone ECU?

What if you fit a NON VVTI engine loom, with a NON VVTI ECU, how would that work?

Do you know if the accelerator is fly by wire/electric or is it mechanical?

I'm considering buying a Front cut Aristo VVTI, but as I understand, the VVTI is a messy conversion to do in say, a BMW e36?
Would be a lot easier with non vvti engine?

What other options do you consider to be good, regarding VVTI?
Which engine is best? VVTI or not?
Is there worth paying more for a NON VVTI engine if you want to run twin turbos and original ECU+manual box?

Last, really like your project threads, and thank you for posting good pictures and sharing a bit of knowledge!

Greetings from norway!

It's by no means impossible.. I Don't have time to reply properly right now but cleared some space in inbox:thumbs:

Not impossible, but if it's an Aristo one its a lot of hassle

Wouldnt work so great.. If you used a Supra VVTi Manual loom and ecu, then yes..

The pedal is cable, the throttle body has a TPS, which tells the Solinoid to open/close the throttle. You can get throttle body conversions to revert back to a completely mechanical throttle

The mechanics of any engine swap is the easy bit.. It won't be any harder or easier than swapping a JZ in to most cars.. The fact that the engine has VVTI has no difference to how hard the engine swap is..

What other options do you consider to be good, regarding VVTI?
Which engine is best? VVTI or not?
The VVTi engine is better.. It's newer, flows better, VVTi makes more torque

non VVTi is usually cheaper than vvti.. But if you want to keep it stock forever, source a Manual Supra engine and loom etc.. Wouldn't bother busting your balls to get a v160 either, other solutions out there

But to be honest, the Aristo VVTi Ecu is a pig to work with.. Everything needs to be right or it won't work.. It might run, but will be down on power because the ecu retards the ignition at the faintest whiff of trouble..
If you've got the money to spunk on an engine, manual trans, everything else you'll need to make it fit and work, you might aswell stop pissing around and buy a standalone ecu.. Iv now started doing Mil-Spec wiring harnesses if you need a loom made:thumbs:
