Hey, well I've decided to start up a career in 'Drifting', but more to the point i want to learn a little about it'

Im planning to get myself a Nissan 200sx for £2,000 at max.

The main question is once i start modifying my car to start drifting with it, what are the first things i should focus on?

i was planning to get a turbo to start it off to put a little more power into the car, and then strip it out and put a roll cage and bucket seats. but i want to know what the most appropriate way is for example buying suspension first for the car and after i get suspension i should get LSD or something. i'd just like to know in which order should i put the modifications in, and what modifications i should put it. im fine with cash as ill be working for my cash and spending it on the car as i go along which is the reason why i want to know whats the most appropriate from start to finish.

Thanks :)

it will be my first time, ill be getting used to the car, but i'd like the information in advance then start competing in championships.

The plan is to get the hang of it, and since i live near a race track i'd go there often, i just want to do something with my time as i have too much of it :P once i start getting noticed and worth sponsoring i'd qualify for the championships like i mentioned :)

Can you link me to some? i have looked but i can't seem to find anything, i just come across their setups and in progress, but i'd like to know which parts to get first and so on :P.

Just get the car and take it too some practice days get a feel for the car 1st then take it from there. You will get a fell for the car and you will no what you need to make it work for you. Suspension. Diff then work on power. That's the rout I went.

ok thanks :) well i have an open abandoned air field quite close to me so me and my friend will be there practicing getting the feel of it. but the main point was just what to focus on, for example if im to strip the car out first to get all the weight out and put bucket seats and rollcage and all that kinda stuff, and if that should be the first thing to do, or maybe stick a turbo in it first, just not sure and i wanted some advice to see what other peoples routes were. but thanks for that :)

Btw, is the car in your picture your car? :P

Just get a feel for the car 1st. There is no harm in striping it out and bolting in a cadge and bucket seat.

yea haha i will be getting the feel of it like i said on the air strip. i just wanted to know in advance what to modify and what route to take with my car :)

weld diff, coilovers, bucket seat then more lock thats the order i would do it in.

you wont make a career out of drifting though you will spend alot of cash but dont think you will ever get paid to drift in the uk

for competing in championships and having sponsors i think you get paid? and if it takes me to go to america to try get into formula D i am willing to give it a go :) i'm definitely into my cars :p

But back to subject, what about increasing BHP, sticking a turbo in should help, well i suppose getting the important stuff first like weld diff, coilovers etc, but if i need more bhp then i suppose it would be a good idea to try find more bhp? :p

As has already been said there is no career in drifting and i wouldnt even be thinking about competing let alone sponsorship before you've learnt to drift.

Get your car, get a bucket seat in it, weld the diff then practice, fit some coilovers, then practice and practice some more when you can drive the car to its full ability then you'll know what you want to change next :)

Just a friendly warning, you may not want to talk like this on Driftworks lol I would say every drifter in BDC currently funds themselves even if they do get help from companies so if you're looking to get paid, try another motorsport.

1st thing without question.. coilovers. Stock suspension is shocking, no need for 'fancy turbos' or stuff like that. Just get suspension sorted, weld the diff and get a cheap bucket seat. Pump rear tyres up to 50odd so psi and get skidding, seat time is the only way so get to santa pod DWYB.. i learnt so much in just the morning, was on the big track in the afternoon loving it. Start working on power/chassis etc after you know you can drive! Easily obtain up to 300ftlb toque/hp with bolt on mods like injectors/intercooler/exhaust etc.. good luck!

Haha thanks for the information :p, this is really helping me as i was clueless and now im getting the perfect idea haha, and as i mentioned i have too much spare time and i'd definately like to get involved in all the fun drifting stuff, and i am willing to spend money on something i enjoy doing but its just a bonus to make a career out of it, travel all over and put effort into a good hobby:)!

Thanks, this is giving me the idea, im learning so much!:D

but thats the plan, get the main stuff out the way and practice, then maintain to my suitability :)
