e36 328i will it drift in the dry ??

540i sounds brilliant, but that's it. The weight kills the fun a large bit. drifting f*cks up the suspension and all bushings, tyres, brakes and so on, so keep the weight down. A big engine isn't everything. The M60/62 engine has also a lot more expensive issues than the M50/52. The 60's aren't bulletproof at all. But it's a great daily though. It can drift but I don't really wants to.

540 is brilliant, as is a 328

My m60 that i trash and ride the rev limiter all the time because im a retard has not missed a beat.

Yes the 540 either e34/e39 are heavy but they certainly arent to be sniffed at. You wont find a manual 540 at E36 325/328 money though.
Any e36, 323/325/328 will outlive your need for more power for quite a few years guaranteed.
E36s are easy to work on, cheap, reliable (with common sense)

328i will do what you want for ages while you progress though, and are a doddle to fix and parts are as cheap as they come!

got a lovely touring that im going to part with soon, would be the ideal starter car!
