interesting but i have to say a rather odd choice .. having owned quite a few of them the major plus point of the FD is its fantastic balance .. a balance based on a very lightweight engine that will surely be a little bit wobbly now you have a humungus block of iron in the front ?

how do you think this will affect its drive etc ??

Not a alloy blocked V8
Nice drag car

alex im honestly not up on the whole yank V8 thing ... are they alloy ?? ... whatever it is its got to be about 145 times heavier than a 13b :D

just confused thats all, even as a drag car i still can't understand the benefit , unless he is gonna weight the rear end ? There is an FD in the US with an SR20 which is apparently fantastic to drive .. am really interested to know what this would be like.

you can get alloys ls series 350's now.

Rover v8's are all alloy but they also suck a fat one.

ford 302 has iron block but you can get alloy heads and for a 5.0 its tiny.

that 350 im guessing is iron block and alloy head

I heard that the some of the new alloy V8 are actually pretty light maybe not as much as you think away from a twin rotor. Get loads of power from some of them and can be low stress torque monsters.
SR20 are excellent for anything because they are all alloy so good power and low weight plus being a 4 banger you can put the weight right back.

a ford302 with alloy heads is lighter than a pinto:)

yeh all alloy v8's are coming about now and seem really good choice. easy to get power from and loads of tuning parts. if i had the cash i'd have a lovely fuel injected all alloy v8.

Yeah but its where the weight is positioned too, and the rotors are small, low and back.

a v8 rx7 used to race in thundersaloons back in early 90's that was ironblock alloy head 6.5 or 7 litre. that seemed to do ok.

he he more replies than i thought i would get...right...as nick has pointed it out is the iron block 350 which they were making in 1956-...tough and durable...the all alloy engine is the ls1- motors out of the c5 corvettes...but when you consider that an ls1 and ecu and t56 6 speed box is gonna pull ur pants down for 5k plus...this is why i went for the 350 chevy...its a rebuilt from scratch block new bearings etc etc has a 276 cam,and 327 hi-po heads which are 70cc combustion chambers of the early corvettes...compresion should be around 10.4...and engine is 347 bhp and 367 torque...not much you might think but 250 torque at 1,500 rpm is pretty good....if i get the money together i will put brodix ali heads on,change the 650cfm 4 barrel carb to a 750cfm and should see 410 bhp and 400 torque...but thats if i can afford them...:(...i have changed the transmission for a chevy th350 3 speed box with a manual valve body, which is like a cheap version of tiptronic really and you get grease lightning gearchanges, not like the usual slushmatic change on an auto box..

as far as weight distribution goes the chevy weighs in at 490ilbs...sounds shocking...but its only the weight of a person in difference really, and if you look at the pics the engine is only 1/4 inch further forward than the 13b motor...
