First drift car

I could never understand the problem with tall people and mx5's.. are you guys aware the roof comes off right? :D hahah.

I am 19 and have a e36 compact. Its the 318ti with the 1.9, great cars and can easily go sideways with a clutch kick and a bit of aggression. Insurance isn't too bad at £1300. (try and pay for the whole year up front though! I saved myself £1400 by doing so) :)

Thats with elephant btw

surely you had a car before the e36 for the insurance to be that low compared to mine ?

I think it just depends on what you tell them. A couple of my mates said that if you tell them over the phone that it will be garaged over night and drive less than 5000 miles a year. That can reduce it significantly..

cool ill check this out. Would it be such a big deal if you plan on doing more than 5k a year and don't actually have a garage to keep it in ?

If insurance is the main inssue try some rwd pickups, Mazda b2200, these are dead cheap on insurance, was 2k for me when I was 17 on a modified one with Aviva van insurance

as above, my Mazda b2000 with an sr20de was only £900 to insure when I was 17 through Aviva van insurance...

1.6 bimmer wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. Mx5's are brilliant. I have few mate with them and they hold drifts really well. One has lsd and the other 2 are welded

what about a 2L e36 ? Cant really go higher than a 2L, because of insurance. Even at 2 litres, it will be around 2.5k a year. Not really looking to buy anything now anyway, because I work deep sea and im just about to go away for 4/5 month.

I would go for a 1.6 E36, then fit a 2.8 in it. These engines are cheap and immortal. You don't even have to report it innit, just dont get into an accident.
Btw I wouldn't worry about the car not having enough power to drift, just initiate with speed or clutch kick.. I guess. And don't worry about killing your clutch with clutch kicks, I burned the clutch bad, smoked like a tyre, it still bites..
