First RWD, MX5??

Ive owned two 200sx, 2 e36's and the best car ive drove was my mk2 (nb) mx5! I had a 1.8 with an lsd and was great fun because of the lack of power in the dry it really made me learn quickly and wet it was a great laugh.

Simple things really buy one with an lsd or if open weld it up. Coilovers i found made it less wobbley but there is also loads of aftermarket bracing you can get then plety of seat time :)

JUST FUCKIN DO IT

Also 1500-2000 should get you a damn good spec 5. Though I'd follow jites advice and just spend 800 on a stockish one. Cut the spring, weld the diff, lock spacers and off you go. If you're feeling posh grab some hsd's on 0% finance. Done

I wish I could just do it now! Was offered a decent looking 5 last night from somebody on here! The car I have now I could probably get between £1500 and £2000 for, so that would get me a decent 5 and part of my insurance, but really I need to wait for my two years NCB, with one year insurance is above £1500 which I can't really bring myself to pay, especially when I'll be losing the few months of my 2nd years NCB I've got.

Yeah I should be fine I think, I sometimes do fire it into roundabouts a little much, but I know I'd be a lot more careful in a RWD, especially one with a locked diff!

i wouldnt advice cutting springs!!!, cheap set off ebay for less than £200 have done me fine to start and few others

That says it all, and it's the reason I want one, it's underpowered but still more fun!

Definitely wont be cutting springs haha!

I think I would go for the HSDs, I'm tempted to buy some after Christmas so that I can't not get the car since I'll have money in it already! Are HSD's good? Or are there other brands you would advise? Thats if you've used them! :)

Hsd's are probably the best , but you will be better with spending money on cheap ones and the rest on seat time

Thats good then! I agree seat time is key, but I want the car set up as well as it can be, and to be honest I don't have much else to spend the money on haha!

By the way don't rule out 1.8's for insurance purposes, they came in cheaper than my 1.6 for me.

I'll get a few more quotes and see!

Recently bought my standard 1.6 and fitted bucket seat and a welded 1.8 diff, nothing else. Took it to Lydden last weekend and it was so much fun, drifting 3rd gear dry no problem. Huge balls out flicks are all thats needed.

Sounds good! My plan is pretty much coilovers, bucket seat and a welded diff!

Yeah. By all means once you have a welded diff just put down money for your first drift day before getting the rest of the mods. Granted you'll want rack spacers, coilovers and a bucket seat but it wont ruin your experience without them.

I don't know what rack spacers are :(

No I agree, thing is I would want them anyway, as long as the car is worthy I'll put money into it, if I decided that drifting wasn't for me I'd still have them! Other than the welded diff haha!

Check out clubroadster.net

I have a 1.6 MK1 MX5 and i love it more than my previous cars, E46 330ci, Sil80 SR20, CA18 S13, 540 E39. So small, nimble and doesnt shred tires. Its perfect!

I bought a MX5 to mess around in, but have now bought a 328ci.~

Cannot fault the mx5 to be honest, I got the 1.8 140bhp with LSD and its very easy to slide around. Its up for sale now but if I can sort storage space out I will keep it and get down to some drift events in it :)
