Sup. Still cant find a car to buy, only 19, just passed my test, Want something rwd for a daily and the occasional track day. Dont want to spend more than 2k on a car. im getting quotes of just over 3k on a 99 318is, but no mods allowed. Cant get insurance on a mx5. Are there any other cheapish rwd cars that the insurance is not so bad on these days for someone like me ? cheers.

Ive been thinking about it buy kind of put off byt the fact that they look kinda shitty, and also the power, i know for a fact i will get bored of it after a month or so. What they like with engine swaps ? are there many engines that will fit into it ?

just checked insurance on that volvo, comp is 2.5k, i can get an e46 for only 300 more, so i think the volvo is a bit pointless tbh..

jesus christ.. its cheaper for me to insure an impreza than a bmw.. i honestly do not understand insurance companies -____-

if you look at the secont volvo it has a 1.8 williams clio engin on bike carbs. That thing will rip. They are so light and can be mad eto look awsome. but yeah for 300 more you can insure a 46 but wont it be a 318? Same engine as the volvo but twice as heavy?

are you lookign at 3rd party only? wouldnt worry with fully comp its gunna be alot more except for rare cases. A 36 or 46 is more to insure than an impretza because the insurance companys no exactly why you want it. My rb s13 with all mods listed is only £70 more than my e46 323 was to insure. @ £820 a year with 1 years no claims and im 24.

unfortuantly its gunna be madly expensive. Try Adrian Flux.

Don't be a dreamer with mad ideas of engine swaps and forget about power and performance mods until you actually know how to drive (I mean properly not like a grandad to pass your test).

Look at realistic targets- Minis, little Jap kei cars etc, they're all cheap to run and insure, fun to drive, nippy and have potential.

You can use it as a basis to build your skills, put your own stamp on and build your no claims whilst having a really cool car that's different from the usual shite.

Kit cars might be worth a look, usually have to go through specialist insurance who can be a little better on younger kids.

Other than that you'll probably have to suck it up, your young, inexperienced and that costs a ton of money to insure on anything.

oh I can drive, trust me. I just hadnt sat my test cause im a lazy fuck, and also been working out of the country for ages. Im not a dreamer, i can afford it, and i can drive it, if i couldnt i wouldnt be on here asking for help. Its just that i dont think paying over 3.5k for insurance on a car with mods is worth it. I dont have a problem paying under 3.5, but no mods allowed -_-

Adrian flux told me: "sorry we dont have a market for you". yeah the 46 that i got a quote on was a 2liter i think. I guess i could go for a volvo but it just seems to me like i wont be able to take it that far in terms of mods

If i did decide to get a e36, what mods would be needed to drift ? would full stock work with only a welded dif ? The only mods i would really want would be a hydro, bucket, stiffer suspension and boss with a wheel. Which of these would need to be declared ? Is it possible in anyway at all to "legitly" get stiffer suspension and not have to declare it or something ?

What gets me reading your multiple topics on the same thing is that you want to spend a million times as much as the car itself is worth, but you'll still be driving around in a shit 318.

Why oh why, if you have the money at 19 to splash on insurance of a shit car would you not just spend it on booze, girls and good old fashioned fucking around instead? Then when your age is considered decent by insurance companies you can do both.

We all have to go through the Renault Clio with wicked sick Halfords Fusion double-bass box system crap before owning anything worthwhile.

Just my opinion.

Every clown and his dog thinks he can drive, fact is you've drove for 10 minutes so you either pay top whack for performance car insurance or you buy a small engined car, end of.

Being a dreamer has nothing to do with money but while you're on about it, if you've got the money and you can drive it why the fuck aren't you? I'd be wanting to buy my car and get it on the road tbh not wait for pretend people to give me suggestions.

So yeah I stand by my comment, if you're asking for suggestions listen to them, no ones got a magical company that's gonna insure you on an impreza for the same price as a KA mate.

I'd get a Volvo 340 all day, lightweight car, simple engineering and cheap, what's not to love? As for tuning them, you know Dan Firmager runs a V8 powered one in the BDC right? If you're on about engine swaps do that.

If you can insure an impreza then get one then, ive had 2 wrxs and they are great fun. My 1st one i had at 18 and i had another last year at 21.

If you have the mechanical skills then rwd convert it for skidzz.

What are lexus is200 like for you to insure?

Worse than bmw's. I have the skills to turn it into a rwd, but i have not put much research into imprezas, do you know if its a expensive job ? and how easy is it to come across parts for them in the uk ?

Much rather an impreza than a bmw, just prepare for cunts calling you a twat haha, doesnt matter if people think that all impreza owners are twats haha who gives a fuck?!

Not expensive just mostly weld shit up, and yes mate imprezas are fuckin everywhere in the uk so its not hard to come across parts.

Duno, maybe folk on here will tell you to get a bmw, i dont like them but thats just me.

Have you got any experience with turning them into rwd's ? just been reading up on it, some people are saying that the rear drive shafts could possibly crumble because they are not strong enough.. or is this only when the engine is a bit more beefed up ?
