It may come as a surprise to some people, but a lot of those sites that have funny animations etc... are just a front for the latest bit of spyware, trojan horse software, or whatever. These pages run scripts that can then run the malicious software.
Honestly, if you think you can't get a virus just from looking at a webpage, you need to think again!
Setting internet security to medium-high or high is the only really safe way to cope, but then you miss out on cool animations and other scripts...
