Hardest wearing tyres???

Struggle

Active Member
As above!

before anyone jumps up i'de like to point out that ive used the search function. I've only found out what the cheapest tyres are.

ATM i'm skint as gandi! i need tyres that will last and take some major abuse. i'm not too fussed if they aren't the best gripping tyre i just want them to last.

I've run a few brands of tyre and have rinsed them all. Nankangs were the latest. Easy to stretch onto a wide wheel and smoke like f00k. But sadly they wear pretty quickly.

What have people used in the past/use now?

I've heard Fulruns and sunny's are good but have people used them and been able to compare them to other tyres on the market??

all help is appreciated.

Maxxis MA-V1, lasted me ages and still plenty of tread left.
Pretty cheap, and they stretch ok, we got a 225 on a 10j

sounds cool!

i like 195's on 10j's though :)

none the less if they make my size (195/55/15) then ill get some.

cheers!

any more for any more?

Look at the wear rating on the tyre sidewall.

Or stick your thumbnail in to the tread to feel how hard the rubber is.

Even better is to avoid over heating the tyre - just do a few laps at a time, and cool them in a puddle of water between runs.

What I do is use free part-worns, and look after them. Buying new tyres is way too posh for anythng other than competitions or demos.

i used to run part worns, but now im running 15" tyres they only cost £25 new, they obviously last longer and its more cost effective than changing part worns several times

I took some Hero tyres to a DWYB, they lasted all day and I could have driven home on them. Awesome and cheap, what more do you need?

Used sunny's at Silverstone on Sunday.

One set lasted me a practice session and a qualifying sessio. I also drove home on them.

And as you can see they smoke up pretty well considering I only have 270-280 BHP.

I found the Michelin Pilot Primacy a really hard wearing tyre, lasted forever even on rough surfaces.

I am running fulruns on my daily with 270 brake - they are shit in the wet and when cold they are really sticky for about 20 mins hard use then get too hot and go kak - cheap = yes - good = no

wanli are pretty good for the fuck about. Neutons are getting a good rep... the wear rate is 320 on them, so they as hard as a hard thing, but have increased silica content, so still make grip / smoke down to the way they burn.

cheers for the feedback guys!

glad you've said fulruns aren't good. i was going to give them a go. ive ordered some sunny's so ill have to see how they do. letting them cool down inbetween runs is a good idea though. never really thought about that TBH.

BTW where is the wear rating on the tyres? never even new a wear rating existed?

cheers.

the wear rating is useless anyway, as it is just relative to the manufacturers tyres. they just pick one and give it a 100 rating, then rate the others comparing to that one.

Best I ever had were Infinitys (no, really) :D

They did me 1/4 day at Pod and then a whole day (wet morning admittedly) at Lydd with 300hp, and werent too bad on the smokes either:
