Home brew 2JZ RX7 swap - PIC HEAVY!

Looks spot on mate a very dedicated build. dDd you use the standard 350z clutch release bearing with the collins kit or their extended one? Only asking as I have a collins flywheel and adaptor plate but no release bearing for my build so trying to look at my options keep up the good work :)

Ali,

Is there any chance to produce a second set of all brackets needed for the swap , I will pay for it? Reason I am asking as I dont have the facilities you got and I would be very grateful if you consider !

I have no plans to remove the engine or subframe at this point im afraid. And honestly until its been on the road and tested in anger i wouldnt want to be making or charging people for things.

If it lasts a few drift events and i have a reason to dismantle the car i will be making a jig so i can reproduce the subframe. Bjt thats a while away.

Release baring is a standard 350z one, i oly got a pilot bearing and release fork pivot bolt/stud with the collins kit.

Ahh OK that's helps alot thank you. Hopefully I will only need the extended pivot ball then and things should work in the 350z keep up the hard work thanks Ross

fair enough Ali. I am not looking to start my project very soon so please dont forget me...:)))

Ok its been ages so here a few thing that have been happening....

I tacked together a double hoop front bash bar which is bolted direct to the factory chassis rail, or rather the original mounting points that are there.

It also origionally had some random radiator and intercooler brackets which i decided i didnt like so much... plus the radiator is wonky donky...

IMG_0050.JPG

The lower hoop got ditched for simplicity (might amend again later)

IMG_0056.JPG

Anyway, i settled on this... which has some a simpler brackets for the radiator.

I finally got around to installing the powerflex black differential bushings.. or rather i got my friend to press them in for me .

I managed to solve my small issue of shifter position with a custom "mid mount" shifter for my Z33 (cd008) gearbox made by CBF performance in the US.

IMG_1754.JPG

And topped it with a 7 pool ball knob... because why not...

IMG_1950.JPG

Because i couldnt find a UK supplier, and im a tight ass... i had to make up my own MAF sensor mount from a random piece of inlet pipe and a rubber block.... let's hope it does the job

Currently trying to address the mess of a bonnet out... lots of cutting and trimming just to close it.. and I decided to tidy up the old scoop with a big DMax bonnet vent from Grams Styling.

So now it needs a good go with the heat gun and a bunch of rivets to pin down... but this gives you an idea of what is should start to look like....

Pedal box should be ariving in the next week hopefully...

So with that in, im just some break pipework and a prop shaft from this being driven under it's own power for the first time in a few years :dw:

Did someone say burn out?!?!?

Pedal box origionally made as a limited batch run by obp motorshports and resold by some random rx7 conpany called AtomicRex. I got these second hand from a forum member and its saved me a right pita of making sonethung myself

Had to chop off a couple of studs, bang the firewall with a hammer and drill an an extra bolt hole.... but otherwise it went right in there haha

Its just missing a small bracket for the steering column to bolt to.

Not sure if these 8 bolts alone will be ok, or if ill need to make some kind of plate to spread the load... but ill give it a go as is.

So I had a slight problem with the steering rack (specifically the gaiter) fouling the anti roll bar when on full lock. This was a result of lowering the steering rack to accommodate the engine.

So I knocked up some “spacers” out of box section.....

I need to get the links attached and the car back onto the floor to check the full lock again, but it looks aright...

Worse case I may need to make some adjustable drop links!

Some minor updates..

Pedal box and resoviours are all plumbed in and ran new hard lines and braided lines to the front calipres.

I ended up running a long braided line directly to the clutch slave as i had a spare m10 banjo line kicking around.

Picked up some offset rack spacer to help with the rack move... had to file the rack notches slight for them to fit..

But not the track rods are way to long so a friend is going to be chopping and sleeving and tig welding them for me!

Hmm this thread clearly needs an update....

So I did some more fabrication using my new chops as (£11 bargain from ebay!) and my mig to tack together a bunch of 3” stainless...

And I re-used my silenced midpipe, cutting and blending it into the system around the gearbox.

Tacked together and then off to my friend to be fully TIG welded. The back section is just a straight pipe with a vband connector so thenidea is I’ll make up a proper back box later on and can hot swap them over for loud road or track use

the car has had a missfire issue which I’ve been hunting down in my spare time for weeks now..

Including ordering new coils, plugs and leads from the US

I ordered my prop shaft from Dave mac props, the guys were really helpful and other than myhermes losing the parts I sent to Dave mac ordering was actually pretty straight forward..

So slight issue being that the output shaft dust cap fould the yoke making a nasty scraping noise... so that needed a trim

Wiring in the original indicator / light stalks was well worth doing from an actual drive ability perspective!

I’m not going to bore you to death with vast amount of wiring pictures... plus it’s an embarrassing spaghetti mess to be honest!

Anyway... took for a test... got an MOT

Currently outstanding are a million things I SHOULD be doing, but initially the aim is to fix the missfire and do a full cut and polish on the car which it desperately needs!!!!
