how hard is your suspension?

just a general question. how hard is your suspension, can you drive normally on badly surfaced roads? just been out in mine and it is terrible on the country roads where i live! on the really bad ones i can only do like 20-30 miles an hour! Think i will need to soften it up a bit, although it is perfect when the road surface is good.

Jeeezus, you must have some crazy hard springs in there or are the shocks adjusted right up? My Datsun only wieghs 1005kg and has 350lb springs in it yet will still ride reasonably okay on a bumpy surface. What spring rate have you got?

not sure yet. just picked the car up last night. didnt have time to mess with the adjustments yet. i had a quick check this morning and they are set to 5 clicks clockwise from the furthest anti-clockwise. so assuming that means 5 clicks from the softest.

I use 10kg front, and 7kg rear in a car that weights approx 1150kg, I used to run 12kg Front and 10kg rear, but everytime I drove on country roads I nearly pissed myself from laughing to hard :wack: you couldn't speak, could hardly breath, and if you didn't do your harness up properly you would bang your head on the roof all the time.. fun :D

good to hear that mine arent uber hard then. think phil wins this one! will need to have a play around and see what the setting are.

I think my new stuff will be about the same as Phils old stuff which should be interesting when its here. I do like it hard though so might find it ok.

I don't know what springs i have on mine (mitch might know) but its pretty damn stiff, some country roads are just impossible and you have to drive about 20 mph, with it bottoming out all the time. Saying that i'm not particually bothered as i don't use it daily.

Im running Tein HA's on my S13, not sure what kg springs they are but im running a reasonable amount of damping, and its Hard as Feck!! :wack:

Nice one radat. This is what i have then

Apexi N-1 Coilovers
Front = 8 kg/mm | 448 lb/in
Rear = 6 kg/mm | 336 lb/in

does spring pre load have a large effect on the harshness of the ride?

i was running 11kg front and 9kg rear, TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hard. im stepping back to 9kg front and 7kg rear. the car wieghs about 1100 -1150 ish :nod:

im not to sure, use tein coilovers (he??) same one that matt s uses on his white s14.

not sure on the hardness tbh but i know its uber stiff

My old rally car had stupidly stiff spring rates, in fact it was so bad you could'nt drive it down the road quickly at all as it would skip & hop around corners. :eek:

It felt fast until you looked at the speedo, my old diesel bus MPV thing I could cruise down our local bumpy windy road at 90mph without batting an eyelid, the rally car it was like a Rally of Sweden special stage at 50mph !!!! :D it had no advantages whatsover apart from making the daily drive interesting, but not for the right reasons.

If the car skips up & down over bumps then the suspension is not doing its job, simple as that.

My cars running near standard suspension but after I fitted the poly bushes its been a bit uncomfortable on some roads so I don't know whether or not I want to fit some stiff suspension.

My Tein HR are hard as fook n' all, I don't do that many c lanes but i have a real problem getting a decent launch if i go quarter mile running.
Anyone know what these are set at if they are only height adjustable???
:confused:
