I now drive an 86

Hehe :D well, the 86 is just on loan as my S14 is still being gutted and I've got alot of driftworks business to sort this week...
But as I've never driven one before, I do have to say: It has an awfull seating position, horrible lack of power steering, a steering wheel that should be on a bus (and I'm sure would do my bits some serious damage if I crashed it), and it's really slow, but....... I fuckin love it, the noise it makes is awesome, the feedback is awesome, and it reminds me a little of my old mini, it makes me grin :D... It sounds weird, but it's actually really refreshing to be able give full throttle and not be at warp factor ten in 2 seconds :D... I've not stepped the back out on it as it's not my car, and it's actually for sale, but I can see why they are considered such a great drift tool

Cheers Kenny, your a star dude

An 86 what? Sierra? Cavalier? Belmont?:D

Arse, a touch too slow there. :)

Is it the black one? But yep, the stock steering wheel is so massive, first thing i did was to get rid of it in the old car.. lol. Have fun dude, dont spend too long in it or the spell might get you ;)

want to feel the power understeer :D u can try mine out in the next event.

and the heavy steer and super under power u not include Jay  (ENVY)

the seating position in that 1 is awful, mine is kinda OK but Jay's awsome. can't find anything bad in his car tho, not yet.

Special price if you want it. :D (worth a try)

I'd never known what the attraction was for the 86's. Is it the rarity value, the way they drift or just the character of the car- ie they're enjoyable to drive? What makes them worth so much?

Heritage basically, combined with there not being that many readily available.

Its got a good classic status behind it now.

And that they're a hoot to drive. :)

I can't really think of anything that compares to it, small, light, front engine RWD, pukka revvy N/A engine, etc. MX5 is probably the nearest thing, except it's not really the same, now is it. :p They do pull in more money than they're worth thanks to heritage IMHO, but if you want that type of car then you can't really get anything else.

Thats one of the major problems, theres nothing else like it. With the move away from RWD there really aren't many small lightweight RWD NA cars about and pretty much all of the ones that are like that are MR or impractical track cars. There have been rumours about that Toyota were thinking about bringing out a new small RWD coupe, most likely based on the IS200 platform, although i think thats unlikely.

it seems the new bmw 1 series will be a close modern car like the 86. I bet its qutie alot heavier though. It would be interesting to see it drift.

I dont see it somehow. The BMW 1 series is going to be aimed at women wanting a small car to pop to the shops in with a nice badge. I cant see it being a drivers car, but you never know.

Like your sig pic Carl, looks like the whole car is up on stilts but its not leaning over at either side, Weird!

its a bit high yes :D
As soon as the cheque clears from my mr2 sale ill be getting some kyb adjustables, some springs, strut braces and arb's :)

It's raining today, godamn this thing likes to step out :D The diff is really good, and it's done 145,000 miles.. The clutch is shagged though :(
Kenny what you on about with understeer? :D  :D

it's fucking hilarious trying to control a drift with your head banging off the ceiling, your legs 'a-kimbo' and the steering wheel about 4 inch's from your 'goods' :D

To heel and toe it, I have to use the side of my foot on the footbrake, and my ankle on the throttle :D
