Insurance problems

Where does everyone insure there import cars? What are people paying for insurance? Does everyone declare all there modifications? Ive always had trouble insuring import cars for under £2000 a year and wondered if this was normal? Any recommendations appreciated, thanks.

How old are you ? I use Swinton mostly my Eunos is £184 a year and my AE86 is £450. I have like 5 + years NCB and im 32 so that probably helps a great deal. When i had a Soarer that was stupidly hard to insure and was like £1500 a year half the price of the car haha

I'm 27 which i thought wouldn't be too bad when it comes to insurance! I had a UK s14a which was about £700 a year and atm I have my daily 320d insured for £525 a year! I have 9 years ncb but that's used on my daily so I guess I can't use that on another car! I was looking to get a soarer, chaser or skyline but insurance looks to be ridiculous so I won't be able to afford it! Bit disappointed tbh lol

27 means you could qualify for classic insurance (depending on how old the car is) There are limitations on the policy but you can pay silly cash, I insured a Mazda Cosmo for 117 quid a year

I have my import modified truck and my modified rx8 both with flux, the rx8 is on a multi car deal with them where they mirror the no claims.

There must be something more to this.... Insurance is based on your age, sex, postcode and convictions. Either you've got loads of points/a ban thats messing you up or you stay in an estate thats as rough as down town Baghdad.

Its either a combination of all of that or your going on Compare the Market and looking at normal car insurance companies, not specialists.

How old do the cars have to be for that?

Thanks, I will give them a try...

I think its over 20 years, don't quote me on that. Ive insured Aristos, the Cosmo, an Evo 1 all on classic policies.

Companies like RH Specialist, Footman james do classic cover just give them a call and ask

I have no points, bans or convictions lol I would say it's it's quite a nice area tbh! I've tried some specialist companies but everything comes out silly money if I mention mods! Will just have to keep trying I guess... What should I be expecting at my age for something with a jz or rb engine?

I insured my 180sx with 400hp for around £600 through APlan at your age. Anything Skyline related is going to have Skyline Tax.

with flux my r32 4dr skyline skyline was like 800quid with 3 years ncb at 22. how many points have you got to be making it that high

I'm with Sky Insurance. I'm 23. I have 3 cars isured with them as they gave me the best prices.

Insured my PS13 @ £800 all mods declared, 4yrs NCB.

Insured my MX5 @ £580 all mods declared, 0yrs NCB (as I used them on the silvia)

Insured my Stagea RSFour @£1000 all mods declared, 0yrs NCB (as I used them on the silvia)

Although all my cars are stock power, and I only have mods that affect suspension, styling and handling.

Sky mirrored the no claims from my daily on to my compact's policy. Was surprised with the price considering the list of mods and an engine conversion.

That sounds pretty damn good for your age! I might have to try looking for a more stock performance vehicle then with similar mods... Thanks

I was unaware that you can do that. :o It's almost renewal time so I'll have to try it out.

My PS13 is also kept garaged and all (apart from the MX5) have Thatcham Cat 1 Alarms/Immobilizers.

With your age and NCB I'm surprised you can't get insurance on a Skyline/Soarer. I too tried to insure a Skyline (GTT) and got laughed off the phone, but they would insure me on a RB25DET Stagea which makes no sense at all.

£600 for a volvo swapped e36 compact.
Sky have a team that deal with the modified stuff, speak to one of them and see what they say.
