I bought cheap wheels for my car. But atleast they are a unique design and look EPIC!!! Sportmax FTW!!! Cheaper and cooler and scrota
 
this thread sums up why the JDM importers are struggling to stay afloat and are losing japanese contacts daily.

did you know there are 4 japanese companies that recently refused trade to the uk due to counterfeit? one even refusing all export business.
Did you know two very 'well known' aero companies are close to closing down completely?

Now im not sayin rota are directly responsible. But the replies on this thread show the mentality that co-incides.

Im just as guilty.. you only have to look at my competition car to know that. so im not preaching.. im just sad that its killing jdm markets. :( But im doing what i can to change that in 2011. hopefully.
 
to all the "rota/bodykit copys" are putting the poor Japs out of buisness lardy da....

maybe if they had there products as readily available over here for a respectable affordable price maybe we could buy them?

its not out fault they failed to provide there potential customers with a service that was adequate.

i fucking love SSR Profs SP1's i wank over them daily. id love to have a set. but the fact is. this...

i run Rota Grids. i skid on them ive bashed them into curbs at the tracks, im not afriad of giving it hell - why because i know i can call driftworks/rare rims and have a New wheel next day delivery for like £60.

now i bend a -10000000 ET 17x10 Work wheel. a) where the fuck am i going to find another one. b) i only have 2 livers to sell to buy it.

now if our For sale section Was full of Volks, and Works, And shit, at £500 a set then we wouldnt have this problem. even better if they were Sub £1000 new. instead for a decent set your paying £1500. 2nd or third hand and i could never justify it.

So fuck them, and stop bitching and defending them its there own fault for leaving a gap in the market big enough for tens/hundreds of companies to jump in. and good on them cause where else would we buy decent offset rims at a affordable price?

While you are at it go firebomb your local Mazda dealer for them putting NSU out of business by copying the Rotary engine and doing it so it cost the owner less.

on the GTLM note - why dont rota make this with dcent Dish offset. sizes etc? they have it in like 18/s with 1mm dish. make some in 16 with some decent dish!
 
I bought Rotas in the past because of the price. If these are like £900 for a set I'd rather pay a fraction more and buy some original wheels that won't be on every other S-body in the UK.

Rota found a gap in the UK market, like people said. But that gap was at £500-600-ish wasn't it?
 
i think the price is relevant to the size jord. when they were boshing out it 600 a set they were 17' and they were reeling 1000's off. think these are bigger and less in demand.

Yeh I remember the days of £500-600 sets of Rotas. Rotas for £900? No thanks, I only paid £100 more than that for my Work Emotion XD9's and then sold them on for the same price two years later.. My seriously pimping Work Rezax II's are working out to be cheaper than these Rotas too.... go figure. :D

WTF, Mazda and NSU both licensed the Wankel concept (as did others), NSU didn't invent it, plus NSU formed part of Audi so hardly out of business :wack:

just playing devils advocate here but correct me if im wrong but aren't most of the JDM wheels actually fairly reasonably priced in japan ? its the shipping and import duty that makes them expensive so nothing the companys can do about that is there ?
if you compare the closest type wheels that we can get easily over here like 3 peice Image or braid wheels or the various other euro wheels like schmidt, tracer, kerscher etc then they're actually not unreasonable at all, they're about the same price comparatively, decent 3 piece wheels are just expensive all over the world and there has to be a reason for this than just profit margins i dont know maybe something like they're more expensive to produce maybe !!!!

i havent quite worked out the right way to word this but something along the lines of.

if Jap toys and electronic items are being manufactured and sold in the uk - undercutting the uk products (or what was uk now put out of buisness or re sited) can do it. then so can wheel manufacturers.

that'll be down to cost, companys like sony etc are huge and sell thousands of their products to every type of person everyday and make millions, work or volk etc just wouldn't sell enough of their product over here to warrant a uk or europe based factory as the market simply isn't big enough, remeber rota's aren't even manufatured over here either and they sell loads here.

i dont mean a factory based here - just whole products imported.
 
again its down to the size of the market, no matter which way a decent, strong, lightweight, 3 peice forged wheel is going to cost a whole lot more to produce than a cast rota wheel so they have to be more expensive retail, so even if they were shipped over in their thousands like rota wheels are they just wouldn't sell enough to make it viable, otherwise it would most likely be happening, its not like these are rare unheard of wheels everybody knows about them and everybody wants them so somebody must've looked into doing it like this and the only reason it aint happend will only be down to cost.
