Nice Starter Drift Car?

I've been reading through this thread and I was wondering on what people's thoughts are on a RWD conversion for drifting? I'm 18 and currently driving a tuned MG ZS kicking out 150, with enough torque to spin the front wheel up into 4th... I've been on a skid pan with it and I'm able to force a 'drift' out of it on most corners in the dry now so I'm wanting to move on to some proper drifting as opposed to just ripping the handbrake and skidding with style ;) Would a RWD conversion be the right way to go? I absolutely love this car and it's very well known in my area and at local shows... My other option would be an S15 or R34 (money isn't really that much of an issue as I have a few motorbikes I can sell to raise a few extra grand if needed) What's the best route to take and would a RWD conversion be a waste of money and ruin the handling or not? please help!! :)

A conversion would be rediculously difficult and not being a dick, but by the fact that you've just asked about it says to me that you haven't given the slightest thought to how you would actually achieve this.
What engine/gearbox you would use and all manner of other issues that would arise. Sorry to kill your buzz but it sounds like a non starter to me

Completley forget what you just said, converting this car to rear wheel drive is going to firstly cost you thousands of pounds! And secondly it's going to be pointless!

An MG-ZS is OK for just driving around day to day in but leave it at that! No offence but that fact that your asking about converting it in the first place shows that you haven't really thought it out! If you paid a reputable business to do this then I'd say your talking easily £5000, the amount of work involved would be crazy! Just think about it.....

You say that it's "Tuned" and kicking out 150, I presume that it is a 1.8 K-Series? What tuning has been done? The 1.8 K-Series (and 1.4 and 1.6!) Are not really that great! Very prone to head gasket failure! There are much much much better engine out there!

Use your money to buy something cheap! Don't think about S15's and R34's etc... As even if you have the money to buy one you will be too scared to learn in it! Consider one of the usual cheap beginner cars such as E36 BMW's, MX5's etc...

agree with this.

get a 320i (or 325i) e36 and you'll be fine. their (atleast in Finland) really cheap! under 2,000€ at good condition! :-)

I wish there was a like button like Facebook so many funny comment if I was u mate get rid of this 150 bhp rover which properly will spin the wheels all the way to 4th with nankangs in the wet in home base car park some of the guys on here wish they could get traction in 4th on a dry day snm

Why bother trailering a car? A decent trailer costs loads, then the cost of the car and having to get someone who can trailer it all the time?!!? madness! just buy a cheaper car u can actually drive, you'll learn most driving it day to day anyway!

this basically. get yourself something u can actually drive to a drift day to start unless money isnt a problem.

It's got a 1.8 honda civic engine in with an air intake kit, upgraded clutch and gearbox, uprated brakes all round, uprated flywheel and cams, plug and play Spider Performance tuning kit and waiting to have a turbo installed. and to everyone saying I haven't thought about cost's of converting, It would be done by me and my dad + his staff (he owns a few tuning companies) and it will cost me around £1'800 for parts which I can get at a discount cause of my dad's company :') And bristol.e36, It's wearing Pzero Nero's and has 326Nm torque

The reason I'm 'only driving a ZS' is because at the time I bought it I had two motorbikes and couldn't really afford anything more :p My insurance is reasonably low as I've got 2 years ncb from my bike insurance which I carried over to my car as I stayed with same insurers :p

326nm is 240lb/ft, you WONT get that from ANY naturally aspirated 1.8ltr engine without nitrous, full stop. Especially not one with only 150bhp.

So what parts do you think you need if its only 1800quid in bits a RWD it?

What tuning companies does your dad own?

you are on a lonely road wanting to convert a rover sh*tbag into a decent car to start with. Drop it and get a BMW e36 and see how you go.

I call BS on your figures unless you can show a print out. 240lb/ft from a little K series with your basic mods is NOT POSSIBLE without pixy dust. Or Angel dust. Are you high?

I hate you, your car, and your bullshit theories. Fuck off
