Noise restrictions at santapod

Im going up pod on wed for DWYB and abit worried my cars going to be too noisy due to the new noise regs, Has anyone been up recently with a japspeed shotgun exhaust? i have a silenced de-cat in there aswell but its still pretty loud. Just trying to gauge an idea as i dont have a db reader. Cheers.

Oh and another thing, how to they take the max 105bd reading? when ur drifting past them or just reving at a stand still?

Yeah there is a restriction mate because of the surrounding houses , I'd suggest trying to make it quiter because you may get there and be told no drifting for you.

And it's not measured as such it's " that's way to fucking loud " and it will be judged wen your flat out

what a load of bollox, has any1 heard a top fuel dragster on full chat! what is with this country these days! you cant do anything that causes noise. if the residents dont like it, dont buy a fucking house there! at this rate in a few years drift/track days will be dead and buried as the local residents complain more, and the council put tighter and tighter restrictions on tracks until its no longer viable to run these days.
were in a global recession, fuck what the residents want, and concentrate on trying to make some money! they moan when people drive like tossers on the road, then they take away the track days due to noise! the thing that makes me laugh is you can go and drive silly loud cars on any road in the uk, all around the perimeter roads at the tracks, but as soon as you get on the track itself, your car has to be quiet!
this is one thing that really pisses me off! there is noise every day in our lifes, do people stop planes from flying over there houses? trains from passing, army training gun/explosion fire, motorway noise, police/ambulance/fire sirens, loud shouting drunks! general city noise, etc etc. no! if they dont like it, dont live near a track!!
rant over!

+ a very big 1

I went in may with a 3" turbo back drainpipe of a system and had no bother, granted I was one of the louder cars.

I now have a quieter apex system :)

Everything nickson said is true! fucking government! Councils! And local old grannies with nothing better to do than complain! Grrrr

Simple fact is though, there no resason anyone has a loud exhaust other than they want to.

They get away no bother with top fuelers as its 5 seconds of loud noise every minute or so. Bit different to 4 drift cars non stop from 10-4.

What Stav said, near enough what I was gonna put there fella.

On a personal note, I feckin' hate loud exhausts!

What about USC and all the other anti social loud events they run, rav tents... Etc...

Nickson is right...I live near an airport wonder if when I'm old I'm going to moan to the local council:smash:

Try watching a drift video without the sound on ...and where there is no smoke from tyres... It's boring as a spectator and that's what this sport has always needed , interest, if we don't have interest in the sport it won't progress and it wont make money to make it bigger and better.

Same happend with the 'Francorchamps' circuit in Belgium. People buy houses near the circuit because they're cheap and then complain about the noise.

do none of you realise that pod is alloud a few loud days/events a year
and the rest of the time theres a limit in place like most race tracks?

personally im not even remotly fussy about noise regs, theres no need for a loud exhaust it just makes people look like chavs imho

The sooner Sr20s are made to run stock exhausts the better. Lulzz.

Ps, most loud cars are just fucking annoying.

the drag cars run every minute for 4 days!! and every other drag car aswell as top fuels are silly loud! even the quietest drag car is 10 times louder than any drift car out there. i agree stupid loud exhausts are not necessary. but there are many track days now that even standard production cars cannot pass noise regs! so these standard cars can drive round the roads as much as they like, but go on a track and they r not allowed to run! how does that make sense!

there are many tracks with 99db limits, a std 911 gt3 can read 106db with ease! there are many other std production cars with noise levels higher than 99, there are even stricter drive by limits. turbo cars can be very loud just with the 3inch decat exhaust they usually run to be able to run higher hp. yes you can put extra silencers in, but why should you, not everyone wants to spend £500 to quieten down an exhaust system! rx7s are difficult to quiten down, and many n/a engine with throttle bodies will fail noise tests on induction noise alone! caterhams often struggle. std road going cars with throttle bodies.
turbos with external screamer pipes can also struggle due to the high pitch noise emitted on boost, which may see a car pass static but as soon as it boosts up the track it will ping a noise meter.

there is a difference between having a silly loud exhaust, and the tight limits they are now enforcing. many cars will struggle to pass noise limits these days! even with standard or sensible exhaust systems. and the sacrifice is that you could spend £300 on a track day, spend 5 minutes on track, then be told to leave! that could be a pretty hard pill to swallow, especially if your car is borderline

the track should be where you can go and drive your silly cars at silly speeds, and a lot of the time a powerful car will mean a noisy car. if people cant get on track because there car wont pass a noise test, people will just drive like nutters on the road instead, making just as much noise as they would be on track, and putting peoples lives at risk at the same time.

Totally agree with Nickson... they are good enough to use the roads, why can't they be driven on the track

I love noisey cars, it adds to the excitement of an event as a spectator.... Not the cherry bomb noise on a Corsa but a nice 1JZ or 2JZ on 3-4" pipes, RX7's ripping it on full throttle and the straight through RB's and SR's sound the nuts!

if your bothered about noise limits, come to buxton, its in the middle of nowhere so no limits.

Simple fact is, you gotta like it or lump it.

You can get a 1000bhp car to pass a 98db limit if you want to.

And GOOD sound and LOUD sound is totally different. Quiet enough to pass noise regs isnt QUIET, so people moaning that noise is all part of the event are retarded, as the cars are still loud- Surely you've all been to track days and heard the cars on track that have passed noise regs- They are NOT quiet!

TBH to the human ear you will struggle to tell whats 100db and what is 120db anyhow, as a high revving but actually quieter engine usually sounds way louder than a lower revving louder lump.

Exactly there dragster you can hear for miles what's 120 odd DB really...?

a drift car wont be 120db! 110db is probably about as loud as any normal cars will get. you also need to remember that for every 3db there is a 100% increase in sound pressure levels. so 100db is not twice as loud as 50db, its more like 16 times louder.

to put into perspective a top fuel dragster, on launch they have been measured at 150-170db! this actually equates to around 2.3 on the richter scale!! and if a drift car runs 110db, the top fuel dragster is around 13 times louder @150db and @170db around 20 times louder!

pretty crazy really, 170db is around the sort of spl that can destroy your eardrum for good! and high frequency spl can be used as a weapon! slightly off topic, but all interesting stuff lol.

if they can run dragsters that can be registered on the richter scale, then i dont really see the issue with a couple of old datsuns!! lol
