right then mother biathches
ok so the yellow stuff. its basically sealant and stops moisture getting in the car. (you really think you car is held together with yellow goo? haha) anyway, remove it, its horrid stuff, the best way is to get a brand new super sharp chisel and scrape it off. wont take too long but it is a pain in the ass. S14 floor pan is double skinned, all the strength is in the outer skin (sills, etc...) so dont worry about loosing strength. water will seep in though, so im going over all my joins with nice black silicone sealant.
to clean the surfaces, use white spirit, but... make sure you get off as many bits of the deadening left. a nice brittle scouring pad will do the job and also scotches the surfaces enough to take paint nicely. Primer it with spray filler if you want a super sexy finish. i used regular high build primer, which does the job well too. plasticote matt black is great. i used 5 cans of halfords own matt black large size arosols, but then i did the boot a bumper and wing mirrors too. maybe 3 cans will do for you.
footwells are the worst part to do
good luck! haha
finally, you can also remove a hell of a lot of nuts/bolts plastic clips etc... which will save even more wieght. phil, seriously, wait till the works done and wiegh how much you have taken out! its crackers
haha did you see how i had re-wired my rear looms? you can get rid of most of the gay brackets and wanky plastic clips, they do rattle a lot if you dont. basically, take time to make sure everything is bolted down real nice for the best results.
I would reccomend a panel to separate the boot and cockpit, this is something im intending to do and will keep noise levels in the car down. also, the metal is quite comfy if you sit in it
haha so i was going to get some stick on foam panels and make some kind of seat thing for bitc... i mean additional passengers.
oh also, im up for getting a cage too maybe depending on cost, but, having spent time working with brett doing F1 carbon gear... DO NOT GET CARBON DOOR CARDS, if you do stack it and split the carbon it basically turns into evil needle splinter type crap that REALLY hurts and also WILL go septic if it stays in your skin. also, for some reason, carbon will not work its way out of your skin and you will have lots of black marks like tattoo ink. seriously, i still have carbon in my hands now. urgh.
anyway, love and i hope that helps?
