I stupidly collated all of the first 147 pages of the pic of the day thread using a script on my old pc. Stopped at page 147 as that's when the pc crapped out. Before I delete all this images, does anyone want them - there is nearly 2GB of pictures !
If you'd have READ those pages, or at least the 1st page you'd know that YOU CANNOT POST IN THIS THREAD WITHOUT INCLUDING AN AWESOME PHOTO. Jebus...
Anyhow...

"Garfield Wood built a series of 10 Miss America boats that were the fastest speed boats of their day. With Gar at the helm, the Miss America boats won the Harmsworth trophy eight times in 12 years. Gar’s brother, George, also won a Harmsworth Trophy in 1931, aboard the Miss America VIII, in a year when Gar was disqualified for jumping the start. This made the Miss America VIII a two-time winner of the largest speed boat event of its day, with victories in 1929 and 1931 added to a second place finish to the new Miss America IX in 1930.
After Gar Wood met Harry Miller at the Indianapolis 500 in May of 1931, he commissioned Miller to build two race engines for Miss America VIII. These engines were lightweight 1,113-cubic-inch supercharged V-16s mounted side-by-side. Although they were not ready in time for the 1931 Harmsworth Trophy race, they were installed in the boat in the fall of 1931, and Miss America VIII was clocked at up to 104 MPH, a speed unheard of at the time. Each engine was rated to 930hp and easily outdistanced any competition powered by performance Packard V-12 engines of the same era."
