Reliable 300-320bhp CA18DET

Hi there, just trying to get a list together for a reliable 300bhp CA18DET for my Volvo 340 build.

So far I've got
Garrett GT2871R Turbo
Mishimoto intercooler
Mishimoto radiator
Stage 3 chip
all 3'' stainless steel intercooler piping
Gizzmo MS-IBC V3 Boost controller
444cc injectors
3 inch straight pipe
Z32 AFM
Doc Racing exhaust manifold
TiAL 38mm wastegate
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Driftworks lightweight flywheel
IK24 Spark plugs
HKS air filter
Forge Motorsport recirculating BOV

I want a paddle clutch but which one is best?
Will I need forged internals at this stage?
What forged internals if I need them?
:) Cheers

Garrett GT2871R Turbo -> for only 300 hp, use a GT28R for fast response and good torque!
Mishimoto intercooler
Mishimoto radiator
Stage 3 chip -> go the nistune route, if you want reliable power!
all 3'' stainless steel intercooler piping
Gizzmo MS-IBC V3 Boost controller -> take a Greddy Profec B or a Blitz DSBC
444cc injectors
3 inch straight pipe
Z32 AFM
Doc Racing exhaust manifold
TiAL 38mm wastegate
-> safe your money and take a chinese manifold and a turbo with internal wastegate ...
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Driftworks lightweight flywheel
IK24 Spark plugs -> NGK BKR8EIX is the better plug ...
HKS air filter -> HKS air filter are not worth the money. Grab a Apexi air filter!
Forge Motorsport recirculating BOV

Best Regards, ludi

Forget the bov, use a 28r as a 2871 is wasted for that bhp, standard exhaust manifold is best for sub 400bhp and will last forever, use a Horsham or noz chip imo.

Mine pulled 297.8 bhp on a dyno dynamics rolling road with a t28h and Horsham stage 3 although I had a small boost leak.

Thanks dude, happy I don't have to spend £600+ on the manifold! :p How much ft/lb was it pulling?

dont buy a cheap chinese manifold, you will forever be taking your turbo and manifold off to have it repaired !

I believe it was 270ish. Was a good 3 odd years ago now. but you will get a higher torque rating with a t28r as the power will be there lower down

Just use it as is. All I would recommend is getting it blasted and cleaned up. Maybe clearing up the ports a touch but nothing more imo

Can't see why a Greddy Profec B is better than the Gizzmo, it's only got to hold 17psi or so - both should be able to manage that??

I assume you're going to at least take a look at the bottom end to make sure it's ok??

oh and decent oil and temp gauges, and maybe a larger baffled sump to try and keep the oil flow decent.
Cleaning out the breather pipes and the baffle plates in the cam covers helps immensely with breathing problems.

Yeah with the boost controller, the Gizzmo V3 seemed to be a good deal at £210 and I had heard good things about it. Also probably going to get STACK boost ,oil pressure and exhaust temp gauges! With the bottom end, it will be fully serviced and checked out and all new gaskets & seals on everything. Thinking of some big end bearings as well. The idea about the baffled sump seems good as well, do you know if Martin Battye still makes them? Thanks :D

I prefer BCR8ES copper plugs. They've been great in all my cars, including a decent-powered stock CA.

Profec B Spec 2 all the way. So simple and Ihad one running Big fan of the new Profec too, but they're quite pricey. I have never had a good experience with Gizzmo boost controllers. Fiddly to use, and I've had two on the dyno that were faulty (controller issues, not the solenoid). People seem to rate them though, so maybe it's just me :wack:

I'm still not sure with the spark plugs, I just need something that will be reliable really. "Pricey" is what I kind of don't want this build to turn into... Budget build is the way with this. And blowing all my money on the boost controller isn't really what I want to do. Is there any other boost controllers you would recommend that is just as good as the Profec ones? Two V3's going wrong isn't the best thing to read as well...:(

What about the ApexI Power FC boost controller?
