Road to Driftcup... S13 Build

Trying an update straight from my phone and seeing how this goes...

Anyway spent a little bit of time in the garage this evening after work.

Wheeled the car out again and stuck it's eyes back on... soooooo much better!

While I had access to the back area of the garage with the car outside slightly I decided to actually tidy up the place a bit. Got a couple of bin bags and cleared a load of standard bits that aren't going to be used and can't be arsed to sell... I've posted a lot of bits up for grabs but no one seems interested to the bin it is. If anyone wants standard S13 bits then feel free to comment or drop me a PM and I'll see if I can help.

By this point it was getting lateish so I took a door inside and began drilling and screwing the door cards on! They look great! More bits being done this weekend!

Trying this for the 2nd time now, forum is being rather gay and seems to be posting all my photo's twice...

Anyway... Another small ish update.

Got up early Saturday and decided to be practical, so went down and started to finish the door cards off. After some drilling and an hour or two I mounted the door card, then it was time to sort out the pull strap. After a bit of googling I saw a lot of straps with the actual bolt and mount tucked behind the door card so only the fabric shows. Thought this looked really clean so decided to give it a go! Came out really good, super happy with them!

Also, sticker added incase I forget my nationality, Initial/Surname when on track...

Then after that I wanted to sort out the crappy threads for the tension rod brackets as they were currently just hanging there... Adam kindly let me borrow his Tap and Die kit (need to buy my own haha) I sorted the right tap (10X1.5) and got to work, with the help of some copper grease the threads came out a treat, slapped some new bolts in, impacted them up, sorted. Tension rods properly secured.

Threw the Kyusha's on the front to check the fitment, lock seems more than ideal! They're 17x9.5 on a 215/45 tyre, they'll probably be on the back but possibly ran on the front at some point, thinking of running a 235/40 on the front anyway. But happy with how they look, need another pair if anyone reading has some that they want rid of!

Decided against playing with the ride height/arms, figured I'll do it once the rear is properly assembled aswell.

Now got the roll cage paint so that will be done very soon, then the interior can be chucked in!

Another small but cool update from my phone...

As I said in the last update, finally got some paint for the rollcage from Adam's Dad. Gloss black with some hardener to go with it.

Had a half full tin and was actually slightly concerned that we wouldn't have enough... how wrong we were.

Managed to cover the whole cage, minus the very fiddly areas that we will tackle another time with a smaller brush! But we only used 300ml of paint and 150ml of hardener... (2:1 ratio as recommended by Adam & family) Actually kind of mind blown how far such a small amount of paint got us!

Letting it settle and will then touch up the fiddly areas and probably do another coat to get a nicer finish. But overall it looks sooooo much nicer than the primer, really happy! Shoutout to dad for the help!

Haha thanks a lot mate, really appreciate that! If you think financial stability is overrated then go for it!

Love this thread mate, looking forward to seeing the rest! my mx5 just blew up so I'm saving for a 13 and this is definitely motivating me more... keep up the good work

Thanks alot mate! Appreciate it! Ahh bummer! My dad's got a MK1 MX5 Import, lovely things! Motivation is key man, keep at it!

Just got a new engine donated from a very generous friend breaking his so it'll be back on the road soon! mine is an Import as well its fun but it's no 13!

Okay so another small update from my phone, CBA with laptop and Photobucket!

As per the last update, the cage has been painted, we ended up flatting it down and giving it another coat. Looked a lot better after the second coat! Then after that we went round touching up all the little hard to get to areas with a smaller brush. Definitely a pain but worth it, there are still a few small areas where we could do a bit more but whether we do or not is another matter. It looks great as it is and no one is really going to get that up close to examine the painting of the cage apart from very few haha. Have just accepted that it is a rollcage at the end of the day and looks great/presentable and that's what matters!

Pushed the car out to properly see some sunshine as the weather was glorious this weekend, the red and flake really pop in the light and looks amazing! Black really sets it off too.

With the cage sorted I put the interior back In, love it! Also got lucky and found the seat bracket bolts in the centre console, I thought I had lost them so that's a result!

Will start to bolt the brackets down and permanently put things in very soon. Just need the digidash and my wideband gauge and thats the interior pretty much sorted! Might swap my gifted gauges for some fancy Defi's eventually too!

Got my new fancy front windows being made as we speak by Plastics4Performance, and ordered some GKTech bits through JapWestMods which should be here this week. Then I will get started on the rear frame finally. Will also look into getting a windscreen sorted soon.

In other news myself and Adam are really cracking into porting the cylinder head. Pretty much done th exhaust side now, I'll get some pictures soon but it's looking great! I'm going to start buying the all important engine bits from next payday, so should get a bit more interesting soon!

Been too long since I last updated this. Honestly not alot has happened, I've been waiting to move the car out of the garage and into a unit, so Dad can have his garage space and it will make it so much easier to work on the car with much more space.

Sorted the move thanks to Adam and family as per usual! Was a slightly stressful lunch hour getting it moved but we sorted it! (Having no steering rack tends not too help...)

I was planning on using the standard rear LCA's and sort some Powerflex Black Bushes and new balljoints but then these came up for around the same price as bushes and balljoints so figured I'd get these instead and can always use the OEM ones as spares! Will match my other 7Twenty Arms nicely!

Other exciting mail! Im sure some of you will be aware of who had a sale on for the month of August, was a deal that I couldn't really miss so I had to take it but my Wallet certainly wasn't too pleased!

Link G4+ Plug in for S13 supplied by Auto Extreme, thanks guys!

Also in other news I have now acquired some T7R's of a mate, I swapped them for a pair of VSKF's I bought a while back. I think they'll suit the look of the car more and I love them! Cheers Jack! With some nice Zestino Softs on in 225/45/17 they look great and will be awesome up front! Cheers Harry at Zestino UK for supplying the tires!

Spent the evening down the unit last night with Dad for a few hours. Rear frame is not off and ready to be stripped, cleaned and re-assembled with some shiny goodness! Want to keep this thread alive so updates will be much more frequent from now. Cheers guys!

I feel like a lot of people have maybe given up on doing this due to the whole Photobucket situation ruining so many threads (mine included...) but I'm bored at home so have a few photo's of how the car is looking now...

Would love to get back into doing the thread updates again, anybody got any tips/good websites to use instead of Photobucket now? Cheers!

I use Imgur. Its pretty crap but does the job of uploading pics so I can link them here.

DW does apparently have it so you can upload photos direct but Im thick and cant work it out so use Imgur instead.
