rota quality?

I was planning on buying a set of rota torques from you when I have the cash. just been speaking to a mate of mine who says they are prone to cracking under motorsport conditions. Is this BS? as Ive heard nothing of this and obviously most guys on here use them.

i havn't got a set. But if phil/bon/dan (& a hell of alot of other guys on here) use them on their own Comp cars im more than certain they are fine. I should imagine they wouldn't use them if they are shit!
I'm sure someone else will back me up

i've only heard on one rota wheel getting skelp and it was polo. and he hit something iirc.

i've had 3 sets and about to go onto my 4th set , abuse them like feck and never once had any issues

been running rotas since 2005, never had one problem, i think they use to have problems in america but i think it was just dickheads crashing them up then moaning about them.

Rota's are amaizing, end of.

as said, Rotas are a great wheel and way cheaper than buying the japanese equivelents! Plus, the sizes are improving all the time :)

Any issue with broken Rotas has always involved wheels that have been through some kind of heat process (like powdercoating) and/or hitting them. I know of maybe 3 or 5 wheels broken since they started selling them, 3 of those were bon and phil, one was polo, the other was me when i smashed into a kerb at 50mph sideways, the wheel taking full impact.

so basically, no.

iirc there was one set in the states on an elise that twisted but as above i had same set of rota torques for two years on the cef and then a year on the skyline and they put up with alot of punishment and i never had to balance them... your mates are talking shit and listening to to much tinternet bollocks

Rota sell millions of wheels, what does you "mate" know . . we all love you, but grow up Sammy ffs

My mate being a mechanic for like 6 years I'd hope he knows alot. Sorry that im so immature that i wanna make sure the quality of something before i invest in it. especially as its something kind of vital to safety!...my god im such a dick for asking!:wack:

wow, a mechanic for 6 years, must be a tuning expert then. :wack:

thing is man, reason it seems a silly question, is u shud know considering the millions of people using em.
look at 90% of drift cars in the uk = rotas

thats the whole prob with this forum - ask a question and expect to get shot down in flames.

Its not this forum. Just reaction i get on here.. kinda used to it. Know its not me cos I dont get this reaction anywhere else.

Wasnt trying to suggest my mates a expert. Just stating a fact. Once again reading to much into it. Secondly its not really a stupid question is it? When was last time I was at a drift event? 2007 perhaps? Ive just come out of a year of training so didnt use DW for that time much so Ive missed out on recent events. People tell you somethings unsafe then anyone with half a brain would check it out..or am i wrong?:wack::wave:

your wrong :)

look at it this way, they made it to the DW shop. look at the quality of products in the shop then think about the wheels. if DW sell them they have to be good

I've had several sets of Rotas. They were all abused on track, the only problem I had was with an old Rota Attack on which one of the spokes cracked. However this particular wheel was powdercoated. Other than that never had a problem with Rota.

ive had 3 sets of rota torques all got abuse and some even curbed with no cracks 2 sets had also done a season in the bdc so your mate sucks balls :D

Meh, people hate Rota's because they can't stand that they paid a few thousand pounds for some brand wheels which are gonna get scuffed just as quickly as the Rota's. So they become haters.

As for the cracking/breaking.... saw some great pics of some A-list brand wheels completely destroyed thanks to crashes and hits on tracks, including some Works. Everything can break. ;)

Rotas are a great wheel!!!

ive ran them for 3 years and never had a problem, and ive had some awesome crashes too and never smashed a single 1 ...

great quality, great prices!!!!

Who shat in your handbag. There are lots of things that people use that are prowan to failure. Look at Toyotas massive recall.

For the money i dont think you will find a better wheel than Rota's mate

Sorry Sammy but it is a bit of a silly question, do you honestly think we'd sell anything dangerous, keep selling them, keep using them, use them on our road cars, drift cars, VAN (back in the day), etc etc if they were crap??

I've only ever broken one Rota, it was powdercoated (which seems to weaken wheels due to the heat process), had been on my R32 for over a year and I dragged it over a kerb sideways at ~60mph in Norway directly impacting the wheel, did the rest of the weekend of drifting, then drove home on it at some enthusiastic speeds, drove around on it for a week or so more, then realised I'd broken it on the inside when the tyre went down. I was pretty impressed it stood up to all that, to be honest.

I'm 100% confident of Rota's quality, given how much abuse I tend to throw at things that should be evidence enough! lol :)

This link is gives a good impression at highlighting the abuse a typical Rota wheel can handle:

ROTA testing / quality - Skyline Owners Forum

As mentioned the bad press Rotas get originate from the fact that they have copied designs which made them a bit uncool, that is all. Unfortunatley it's become fashionable to slate their strength, especially on US forums where it's borderline hysteria. But hey that's Americans for you.:wack:

Ok maybe was a silly question but when it concerns my safety there is no such thing as a stupid question. especially reading some of the links etc when doing a google search it does make you want to seek confirmation that the product is safe.
Also you mention powdercoating weakens them? How does Rota produce there coloured wheels? I was thinking of getting a set in white you see.
