Sierra ;)

On the carlton the hub is all integral with the rear suspension arm sadly :euge:, no bolts to unbolt! sounds like you've got it easy! The vaux way is re-drilling one of the mounting points for each of the semi-trailing arms in a different position, then strengthening it and bolting the whole lot back together. this has been shown to correct both camber and toe issues with excessive lowering!

Looks good ! Sierras are the way forwards!

I still use mines as a daily runner so no mods or welded diff yet! I have just sourced a set of brandnew AVO coilovers for 80 quid! which should make it handle a ot better than now!

Then once the snows gone The welding gear is coming out!

TRAMPDRIFT!

bargain coilovers there matey ;) i spent £100 on 2nd hand GMAX shocks and springs so you definately got a good deal there.

i think you will have to reinforce the upper strut tower on the back though, because its only design for damping not springs too. just a matter of welding some plate around it and maybe getting a strut brace just to make double sure.

ive taken the bumpstrips of the side now, after someone on another forum pointing them out, and i couldnt stop looking at them and thinking they were :euge: so i pulled them off. need to tidy up where the adhesive was, hopefully the scratches and gouges (sp?) that i put in scraping it off arent too bad in daylight :o

RIGHT THEN!!!

yesterday with massive help from Nick and Cas (SXOC Candy Drifter), we swapped mine and nicks sierra subframes over and after calling a mate and asking him to bring my welded diff which i forgot, 35 miles from derby to nuneaton, we managed to fit it :D

it required a "group A keyway" angle grinding in the end of each driveshaft to let it engage *properly* with the extra weld on the inside of the diff :wack: , thanks to expert grinding from cas, we assembled the subframe, cut another coil off each of the rear springs (total rear lowering of approximately 80mm....) and fitted some 13" drift rims and we were away!!

TIG welding was great and so far is just awesome, it skids the inside wheel and clunks a bit but nothing unnerving since ive not got much grip from a 186/60/13 tyre anyway :euge: it gets understeer if you just turn in, and then plenty of lovely controllabe oversteer if you induce it. my handbrake now WORKS!! and works fantastically too. pedals still a bit spongy so may have to bleed them at some point but they work fine :D

so thanks a lot nick and cas, youve made me very happy with my car now  and thanks to grant and luke for helpin too :D

a 7.5 inch lsd casing can be cut down by about 18mm to enable to fit it in a 7inch subframe.

Just for your info.

Nice sierra , good skills.

thanks for the info bolf, didnt know that ;) but il be sticking with my welded diff.

skymania, not really got anything else planned. it looks at the moment like il be keeping it for about 6 months more to let me sort my project bmw out, so will need to get it through an MOT this month! should be ok tbh, unless they dont like it because it looks dirty and drifty.

heres some new pictures for your amusement :D just after me and topi cut the front springs and put on my new front tyres.....

looks like you could have lopped at least another half coil on the front ;)

Bolfy you seem like a bit of a sierra hero! you still got your estate for sale?
Your just up the road from me.

Been rocking it up in my 'new' 1.6LX, that now has a disc brake subframe on it ;) Its really slow but goes sideways well on the brakes, given a bit of TLC will be a good fun roadcar.

Sieerrraahhhhh forevaaaaaahhh!!!!!

cas, its settled a bit more on the front now, but needs to be another 20mm lower all round i reckon. with 14s on the back it fills the arch but thats no good - big rims are cheating lol....

the reason we didnt chop any more is because at the front there is nothing holding the spring in really other than compression, and they are about 1mm shorter than the fully expanded strut anyway so another half coil would make it quite dangerous unfortunately :(

at the back its got that rubber cone thing holding the spring in and up, so it doesnt matter so much that the springs come away from the trailing arm on the back :D

cas, i cant beleive that 1.6 comes out sideways on the brakes! you must be going rediculously fast. your a real hero for having that car, with that openu diffu too hahahaha. do you want this 3.92 diff back? (i do have that diff i think??) then you can bang the drive flanges on it and have slightly less slow acceleration? il swap for that 3.62 that came off my car.

Yeah , i love my sierra's, I've had 5. Estate is still sat outside with broken box :(

Some guy is interested , his PAYDAY is the 18th , so it may be mine also.
I'll be sad to see it go , but i dont have the time to repair the beast.

Nice to see someone local to me on the boards. PM me and i'll give you the address of a local forum that i'm involved with

Cool mike, I'll take you up on the diff if it will fit, it feels really slow with the 2.0 ratio! Once I've wound the old girl up to ramming speed tho I can get it on the brakes like a FWD car :euge: It tries to go in the wet if I clutch it, I think if it has the right diff and I give the engine a fettle (its a bit tired, I'm sure the valve clearances have been set with a shovel, and the spark plugs and leads can't be far off becoming dust) it will go okay, or well enough for me to prove a point anyways ;)

Bolf: You have PM
