top speed on s13

hi everyone, i just wanted to know what top speed you guys have got from your ca18det and what supporting mods you used to get it their.

also your 0-60mph times aswell. im just fishing around to see what i should be expecting with what ever mods i do.

Most people have never tested true top speed, and clock speed means cock all.

Even 165 on most cars speedos isnt even a true 150.

Fastest PROVEN CA engine was the old Norris one which did high 180s. Which would be about 7 times round the clock on the speedo. And that was done at Brunters, so with unlimited room itd be 200+ if it had the gears for it.

GPS tested speed 307 km/h - stock ratio diff + KAAZ + 9.000 rev limit. Can't say it was top speed, cause there weren't enough free track to hit the limiter.

When mine was dyno'd it was maxing out at 144mph @ 7226rpm with a norris design stage 1 chip with all the supporting mods.

I'm not too fussed really as I'm never going to be driving that fast.

downhill, stage 1,5-ish 237km/h on GPS
(and wanders BLASTED by me in the s14a like i was standing still :wack:, that thing went like fucking Sonic the hedgehog!!)

We used to do Top Speed challenges on SXOC, over 1.25 miles most cars (even 300hp+) struggled to get much over 150mph. The old Norris car saw 189 (maybe a bit more) at Brunters IIRC, as Stav said probably could have made 200 with a long enough run up but I dont think theres many others that would.

I made 171mph on my Tom Tom. Had a fully forged engine, 740cc injectors, hks gtrs turbo (like 2876). The main difference was I had skyline internals in my gearbox so was longer ratio.

Made 341bhp on a dyno run but had a coil breaking down.

My old 14a did 159 on the speedo but then i bottled it. That was only basic stage 1ish mods and way too much boost, it promptly shat it's self a few weeks later...

Granted doesn't help on the S13 front though. Sorry...

Probably not even 150 on proper timing equipment then.

I've seen 165 on the clock in a tuned Audi TT and GPS was showing 147! I was on the A40 though.

iirc i had 149 on sat nav and didnt seem to want to give me anymore, stock gearing/diff so guessing thats all there geared up to

Probably right, didn't have much more to give either. Front end was going a bit light so backed off. Plenty enough for me!

I me and a friend both with stage 3 s13s last year did a 167mph on gps, thats the max of 5th gear, both 300-310bhp, although I had a t28h which helped more higher up.

My best 0-60 was a 4.7 thats an average of several runs varying from 4.5 and 5, using a g tech meter, dynalicious and a stopwatch.

Although I was running semi slicks on the back which gave fuck all wheelspin, but the hard launches soon killed the clutch and box.

Had you hit the limiter in top? Usually with engines you run out of power before you run out of gears, especially if you've already gone past peak power rpm as running a fairly small turbo etc.

Unkless you had a REALLY long road I find that a bit difficult to believe mate, with 400+hp (admittedly in 2003) we had an S13 only hit 152mph in 1.7 miles, an S14 with 400hp hit 159 on 1.25 miles .......... ahhh, here we go, results from SXOC Top Speed Challenge III in 2003: http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=2457&d=1048487533

To give you an idea, Andy Fane and Bren (155mph and 149mph) would have been round the 400hp mark, maybe a bit over, Simon Norris was reputedly running over 800hp (182), Jeremy had 410hp (148), Barry Caleini was about 360hp (142) you can see where Im coming from :)

In other amazing TSC facts, its rumoured that the first donut Phil Morrison ever pulled was at TSC I, and those results above include Bladeirders first ever 1/4 mile
Good times :D

NO WAY was the Norris car anywhere near 800bhp, no more than just over 600bhp. They always claimed 615bhp, and seeing as it had a TD05 25G on it, that makes sense. And considering the speeds it hit, that sounds accurate.

Timed plenty of cars with sub 700bhp to 200mph+ at Brunters, fuck, been in a 650bhp one at 197.6mph. Timed plenty at sub 600 to well over 180, inc a few FWDs.

Gearing plays a big part. You can have 500bhp, but if you go past peak power by about 150 and it drops off fair sharpish you not hitting much more than that unless you got huge amounts of room.
For the same reason I've been in a FWD road car that hit 165 by the halfway mark at Brunters, but also hit the limiter in top, so that was that.

Full speed and speed at 1.7 miles is VERY different though. Most 200mph+ Supercars cant even hit 180 at Brunters.

I hit the limiter in 5th in my 1st S13 back in the day.

Mods at the time:
Bleed valve, air filter, cold plugs, 17's.
Worked out around 150 in real terms, needle was heading towards the trip in dash terms.

that was around 209bhp (it came wiv a printout bluv). The s13 is very drag efficent, like a calibra :D But anyone who tells me they went faster cause they had 300bhp is a bit wrong... maybe a bit faster as the chip/ecu change would move the limiter up, Id say 160 on normal chip upgrades, tops.

Norris's/Richies redlined at something stupid like 9.3 so that would have helped, but the only way 300bhp+ equates over (a real) 160 in an s13 is with a longer diff... or an auto, 4th in them is mega long :)

I did have a slightly longer ratio, seeing as my top of second was around 75ish iirc, could possibly be it, we did the runs on a very long road, took easily 2-4 miles to get there, was easily over 155 since an evo that we knew had the 155mph limiter was stuck dead on and we overtook easily enough, was also running 18s with 285 40 18 tyres so would increase the gearing again slightly.

That was the Evo up there, not the S13. Richie was running the S13 at TSC 1 and got aboput 165 IIRC.

All of the other cars I mentioned in my post were 200SX's so had the same gearing, its also the OP's question, how fast is an s13.
Its always been the case that 200SX owners think they are a lot faster than they are, maybe because they get there pretty quick or maybe because the speedo overreads in a comedy fashion, point is that the numbers dont lie.
