91 RX7 FC T2. from barnfind to streetbuild.

sooo heres the long awaited update!
been doing a lot on it the past few months so i'll probs split this up into several posts

couple months ago i impulsively bought this mint condition alcantara RECARO SPG cause i fell in love with it and just needed it in my life lol. then picked up a nice Willans 4 point harness to go with it :smokin:

definitely not a priority but #noregrets

because of the way the FC floor is, you have to chop the exhaust tunnel to properly fit a bucket seat in or else you sit crazy high so that was the next step

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.29.57 (2).jpeg

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.29.58.jpeg

used some trusted CAD to get the shape right

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.29.58 (1).jpeg

the slits in it are so i could properly shape it round the lumps in the floor

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.29.58 (2).jpeg

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.31.44 (2).jpeg

this took HOURS of hammering to get the shape good enough to run one solid weld bead around it

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.31.44 (5).jpeg

aand thats it all welded in :smash:

very happy with how it came out!

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.31.46.jpeg

i then moved onto mounting the actual seat

was very tempted to just buy HDF Motorsports universal seat mounts (RIP, gone but not forgotten ) but i have a grinder and a welder at home so i shouldnt be lazy and just do it myself!

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.31.47.jpeg

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.31.47 (2).jpeg

yes the seat brackets are getting painted lol

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.31.47 (1).jpeg

seat lookin sexaaayyy

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.31.47 (4).jpeg

as i had chopped the whole seat rail support out that had the mount for the hatch and fuel door latch, that was next to remake. nothing crazy but looks nice

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.28 (1).jpeg

and as i want this to be a clean street car i cut the carpet to fit. :smash:
the interior was literally the only good condition part of the original car left so i'd be stupid to leave it bare. sourcing any parts for black FC intierior is basically impossible too

all n all very happy with how it came out! ;)

couple months back i met up with the reckless tribe boys to weld up Iains S15 arches so he could fit the overs and drop it on 15s. looks absolutely unreal!

and yes thats static. yes its his daily lmaoo

Still can't believe the quality of work and dedication from someone so young, unreal!

And those Reckless boys know how to build sick looking cars.

next thing i went on to was wiring. hate doing it normally but i actually quite enjoyed it

first part was relocating the battery from the engine bay to the rear. since ive modified/ tucked the whole front harness it was kinda needed

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.29 (2).jpeg

this is the new location for the battery. i used an Odyssey PC680 dry cell battery so i could tuck it away and to save a lil weight. *hopefully* its powerfull enough but should be good.
didnt come out quuite as clean as i was planning but think thats just me being fussy. will defo do for now

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.30 (2).jpeg

i also needed a switch panel but didnt want to go down the usual route of just buying some generic switch panel off ebay so i found this one from a westland
lynx helicopter :euge:

one of the nicest touches to the car yet imo. and yes, every switch and button will be funcitonal :P

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.29.jpeg

also mounting it to the roof tehehe. been a dream of this since i was about 10

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.29 (3).jpeg

front harness extended for the headlights, pop up motors, indicators etc.
the wiring mounting tabs are just temporary, will be making proper ones in the future

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.29 (4).jpeg

photo with the whole front harness installed

waay cleaner than having the original one wrap round the chassis legs n look all grim. very happy i managed to relocate the trailing coil pack from the front tub to where the leading one is on the rear tub. cleans the engine bay loads

WhatsApp Image 2020-08-13 at 15.03.33.jpeg

thats it for now till i can be bothered writing up the rest of what ive done lately. plenty more to come

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.29.50 (2).jpeg

cheers everyone for yer kind words, all motivates me to get more done on the FC :p

heres just a couple wee jobs i did a bit ago

plumbed in the oil coolers and turbo and bypassed the internal oil passage through the block by using an external oil line run from an oil sandwich plate. it lets me run solid dowel pins and means the engine wont get starved of oil in the event of the rear iron cracking. probably nothing i need to worry about with only 250-300hp (to begin with) but better safe than sorry uno

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.29.52.jpeg

also picked up a 38mm TIAL wastegate (none of that fake shit) so i could convert the internal WG to external for those sweeet turbo noises  cant beat a screamer pipe on a rotary!

also gonna up the boost from stock 8psi to 12-13psi odd

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.31.49 (2).jpeg

to match the wastgate, i imported this boost controller that im gonna mount at the side of my leg along with a brake bias

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.30 (1).jpeg

couple months ago i did insurance quotes and added up the cost of everything that it'd take to have the FC on the road and i realised the dream of having it road legal in the coming years is way more achievable than i thought. last time i did insurance quotes a couple years back it was stupid shit like 10k a year and since i got 6 points last year being a wee fanny on a dirtbike, i lost all hope of having this on the road in the next 5 years. until now.

i can realistically afford to drive it within 2 years so the push to have it driving is on.
i started with taking out the engine that was in before just for mock up for the v-mount. i then inspected all the housings and irons and discovered that practically all of the original engine is salvagable which is amazing! saves me thousands and also means the heart of the original car i fell for will live on. great news :)

sooo the new goal for the car is to have it runnnig and driving by June 2021 and im dead set on that.

not road legal, but moving under its own power. the shell still needs to be reblasted, welded, painted etc before i can do that

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.29 (1).jpeg

aand the part i was dreading to source the most, turned out to be easy. Ricky Evans Motorsports recently started remaking (heated) windshields for FCs and thanks to a groupbuy in the UK FC group, i got it for a fair price. for years ive seen people struggle to source these, either importing them from japan or just searching through companies for months for one to come up so im chuffed to get this so easily!
having a heated one is definitely a luxury too :)

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.55.30.jpeg

next part was interior. because of the halfcage, i cant run the full back seats but i still want to run full interior and have the proper sealed off boot space so my biiy whipped up this carbon fibre rear seat delete panel. its just a tester one; the proper one will have an X brace shaped in to it for extra strength :smokin:

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.32 (4).jpeg

very happy with how the interiors coming along! the panels a nice touch for sure :euge:

anyone else into bikes? heres my RG125F, cant afford a car to drive because of the FC and my age; 2 stroke bikes are way more fun than a shitey corsa anyway

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.29.49 (4).jpeg

next part i finished up was the radiator for the V-mount

i used a mishimoto 27" x 19" x 3" dual pass. couldnt really fit much bigger if i tried!

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.30 (4).jpeg

also picked up a walboro 255 fuel pump and a second hand Greddy intake elbow.

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.31.jpeg

:worthy:

the V mount is something ive been wanting to do for years, very happy ive done it :)

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.31 (2).jpeg

love how the shape of the radiator flows with the chassis leg here

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.31 (3).jpeg

this is how i mounted the front of the radiator, pretty simple. believe the bolt holes originally held on the undertray but i'll be remaking a completely smooth one later down the line

WhatsApp Image 2020-10-27 at 11.34.32 (3).jpeg

somehow managed to source this coolant swirl pot for it too, got it from a guy in ireland which saved me hundreds if i bought it new from america after shipping and import shite :D

couple day back i got bored of the original crash bar mounts/ chassis leg ends so i remade them. the old ones were clunky and i wanted more mounts on a smaller area

thought the rust here would be a lot worse tbh. heres how it was on the old shell

IMG_2178.JPG

the insides of the chassis legs were pristine, nice surprise for sure!

WhatsApp Image 2020-11-10 at 16.43.55 (3).jpeg

was worried about welding the 3mm plate to the thin 1mm sheet incase i burned through but it i'd say it came out well :). the wee lip i left on the chassis leg helped

all done !

finally got round to mounting the manual boost controller and brake bias

didnt just want any old ebay shite so i managed to import this Blitz one for a good price. the real dreams a Greddy one but this will defo do!

i then got a liittle carried away with making the mount for them and ended up spending far too long making them but it was worth it in the end :)

the dream since the beginning was to have the two at my side. theres just something about it that i love ;)

hows it goin troops

got another wee update on the FC, ive started selling roof wings!

for the longest time its been impossible to get a decent sized roof wing for FCs besides hotpots one (like hert and reckless tribe boy have) but there was only 10 or something of them ever made.
soo i managed to buy this design off a guy in america and ive now started making these down below :)
not on the same level as hotpots in both design and style but definitely a nice touch to the car

Also all the info on that switch panel when you get onto making it work. Sounds awesome!
