are ca's really that unreliable?

After reading countless posts on how wank the ca engines are and how they're made of choclate surely they cant be that bad especially when you think of all the s13s etc that are run for drifting:confused:, or is everyone just really bad at keeping them maintained and topped up with oil?:smash:

cheers

they as un-reliable as any 20 yr old cheap, fast, neglected car will be. But they not as bad as people say if they looked after them.

i've had 5 and never had any issues. 2 of them were over 150k , one was over 200k and the other 2 were over 130k

all drifted and all driven daily for about 80 miles.

the one 200k one had nearly 50 000 pounds worth of recipts so it was well looked after.

Nothing like getting into a nice S13, its like finding a hot lady with massive boobies only to open the bonnet and find a big hair cock and two balls..

I quite like them. I havn't had any mega mileage ones, but they have been abuse and stood up to it well. My new 300bhp engine (stock internals) has just been finished and is due to be mapped some time next week, I know its not mega power but its enough. I think you get issues when they are on high mileage and poorly maintained, its bound to happen.

i think there pretty good, find a good one and change the oil lots and they can be quite reliable. Not much point in putting massive power through them, but still quite capable none the less. I wouldnt replace a working one with an SR, if however, you blew it up, its probably worth throwing an SR in its place :)

The blocks good, it's the ancilliaries that are the issue. In my experience of course.

mine has 117k miles on it and its not given me a single bother (engine wise) just everything around it gives up. the normal wear parts like coilpacks and plugs and seals are fair enough, but the engine is as solid is good irish rock. not a knock, rattle, clunk etc off it and hell im giving it some abuse!
had her jumping off the limiter for weeks before i got a proper diff, and she took it just like that... running standard factory t25 turbo and boosting to 1bar with no issues... tis' scary. made 200.4bhp with shot coilpacks and boost leak and had jaws dropping with the fairly small mods she has..
needless to say she gets more services than i do haha and i really look after her to keep her running the way she is. i would never slack the maintenance caus i do fear that maybe some of the stories about them being weak engines may come true...

all the oil changes in the world didnt save mine in the end serviced it regularly and did the oil etc after every drift day didnt stop the knew owner knocking the crank out of it withing 30 mins of his first drift day.

I guess you never looked after the matt black one you sold me then ;), because 2 months later it bore washed the piston rings to death, and that wasnt even drifting it, daily driving it 50 miles each way to work........

But to the poster, I dont think I know anyone that has had a CA and it not let go on them......

They are like chocolate though, cheap, but you can eat them over and over until you realise you are sick :D

ye clearly were unlucky with ye're purchases or ye have no talent for spotting sound cars haha. even the ca's i know here in eire are all going strong lol

Granted I know shit more about cars now then I did then, but I cant still count more people that have had a CA let go then it survive ;)

My first ever 200sx was with ca lump in, never gave me any jip in all the 2 years i owned it and believe me it was driven for its purpose, regular services helped alot i would say though.
