BMW E90 Drift build | On its own wheels

I wasn't happy with the look of the previous engine mounts so I did a 3rd version of them which I am happy with now.
1 is done and have prepared to make the other side.

Pretty crazy stuff! This engine position will give a lot of room play with exhaust manifold design and turbo placement. But what do you plan on doing with oil return from cylinder head? As it's designed for the engine to be positioned in an angle.

Thanks!
Yeah, it will be a lot easier with maintenance and service the stuff with more room on the right side.
I will try to fit an extra oil return line from the back of the head down to the oil pan.

Unfortunately, not so much has progressed with the e90 during this year as I hoped. :(
The motivation has been on the bottom and I have started to plan building a new house as well as lots of traveling in my job so the project has suffered.
It is the last time that it has begun to be sanded properly to prepare it for paint.

Went and bought me a 525 TDS from a colleague cheaply.
It had been standing for a few years since it was last started so I picked it up and changed some parts to get it started and then sold it to a friend who will take the drivetrain and put it in a Volvo 760.

Helped a friend move his ice beater between 2 garages. It became a bit ugly last season.
:smash:;)

I went over to Riga to watch the DMEC competition which took place there in August.
An incredibly well built E92 (eurofighter) that did not qualify, this one has been run in Formula Drift and has a MAST Motorsports V8 with about 900 N/A horses.
The yellow S15 is run by a Russian who was invited as a wildcard to the competition, finished 2nd and runs a 2.2L SR20 on about 800 horses and original cable handbrake.

Test mounted my clutch which is for 135i / 335i.
I had to grind out some inside the gearbox for clearence and I had to shim the starter motor about 20mm from the surface towards the gearbox as the newer alu blocks have a molded distance there.

Went to my buddy and borrowed his garage over a weekend to reinforce my rear attachment points and to start changing all the bushings in the subframe to yellow strongflex.

Made a new batch of e34 adapter plates.
These are made to bolt the e36 / e46 front beam onto the e34.
I recently sold 6 sets to the US where some will converting their cars. :)

Finishes this update with that I during black friday couldn't resist to shop
I bought a Turbosystems HTX4064B1 which will be exciting to test.
64mm in and out, double ball bearings and stainless steel exhaust housing. :D

Would be interested to know what exactly these adapters do? can you give more details on these please.

Hi!
You remove original subframe and steering components.
Bolt these adapters on the side members and bolt e36/e46 front subframe onto these.

Then there’s some fabrication needed for the steering and possible angle kit.

@Borjesson.F I also where in Drift Series in Riga, as it is my Homeland :) Next time in country give me call!

I had little thing done too, but just to check if car goes nice, run into some issues with not enough oil cooling, therefore will make additional fan with switch for that. also changing ignition coils and changing power steering cooling radiator for better one. ordered MHD, wanted to go with JB4 but Mod seems to have more customised things what can You do.

Over the winter period have a lot to do to, as will start participating ion Latvian Drift series as rookie and season starts in March already.

Think in New year will start to spend more time for build and try to posts some progress,

Alright, good to know for next time.
Unfortunately they have removed the city street parade so I'm not sure I will visit Riga for Drift Masters any longer :(
However it's a nice city overall!

Cool, I hope everything comes together for you in the competition.
I am planning on building a new house so my drifting plans might be for the future.

Yes that was quit a bit show, they rumour that maybe it will be back on, but will see.

hah, I have the opposite I just have (almost) finished building my house (took me 2 years and little bit more) and therefore I have time for drift.

Ok, if You then have anything around what should not need go to waists from Your build, let me know maybe I can use for me :)

Yeah, I've been there once on Drift Allstars and twice on Drift Masters now and I really dig the city and the track.
I will return if they bring back the street parade.

I am going to keep the e90 with all the parts to try finish the build eventually when I have time and money.
The house build will probably start in the end of next your so hopefully I have the car running by then. ;)

It's been a long time since I updated last time and it hasn't happened that much either because I had big issues finding motivation to prepare the car for paint.

Finally it's painted and I have received it with bad results unfortunately...
Sure it's made in a garage and you get what you pay for but I've seen cars he has painted in the past which had much better result. :(

However, I will have to try and find some motivation to finish the last inside the car so I can start to assemble som parts.

I do have a concern if I might have shoot myself in the foot here.
On the last picture, top left corner shows where I want to place the heater core. (The masking tape almost formed a sqaure)
As written earlier I am going to run M50 in the car with separate expansion tank high mounted.
Will I get some issues with airpockets in the heater core and should I consider moving it?
I'd rather not mount it inside the cabin if any hose breaks.
Should I try to fit a high bleeding point for the cooling system?

Another year has past and I have been struggling to find motivation after the bad paint job.
During this summer I have sanded the inside of the car and painted it with cans as good as possible just to move forward.

I've also started to fab a bashbar with mounts on the front one.
The rear bashbar is done.

During the winter it was time for some ice driving during 3 weekends close to home.
First time for me behind the wheel and hell it is a lot of fun!
I'm really longing for this years winter and hoping for it to be even colder than the last one. :D
The second weekend the servo pump broke (the shaft to the pump snapped) and the rear tires was done.
I bought another set for the car so now I have tires in better condition.
A new servo pump is installed, paired with an old oil cooler I had laying around which should help the pump last longer. :)

I've also fabricated the oil pan for the uptilt of the engine and it is almost done.

Next on the agenda is to start mounting all the necessary panels and lists, windows and all other needed exterior parts so it looks like a car again and to start building the exhaust manifold.
I've made a jigg in Freecad for the collector which a friend of mine 3d-printed.
The idea is to run 3-cyl in to 2 secondary pipes which enters the twin-scroll turbo and then use 1 wastegate per cylinder bank.

I've started to fab my exhaust manifold.
Gladly taking inputs if something looks messy. I know the primary runners not are in equal length but I think the flow should be decent.
I will add EGT connections to all cylinders and start to prepare the tubes for the wastegates soon.

Love this build! im about to start my own pro E81 drift build. are there gonna be more updates on this build?

I’m currently prepping my e90 for drifting as well! One issue I have run into is the bigger height gap between the pedals and the floor. I’m looking to buy a floor tray as I cannot weld for shit, but when I removed carpet liner I also removed dead pedal so now I have no dead pedal. Also the wires are an issue as one’s feet will be stepping on them constantly. How did you tackle this problem?

Hi, cool with more e90's. :D
If you have a look at the picture with my floor and pedalbox I'll try to explain.
First of all I will try running a floor mounted pedal box from Tilton.

I have also made an trade plate of aluminum as floor which bolts to the chassis which is not seen on the picture.
So the floor is raised with approx 25-30mm.

Ah ok, does it by chance happen to be the VAC motor sports one? For an idea of what I’m working with here is this image. I’m genuinely curious on how your floor is so clean in terms of wiring haha, also super sketchy having passengers that can step on wires
