Cusco Mech diffs - MZ or RS

Jason

Nurse?
Now, what are everyones opinions on both/ either?? i know that theres a few out there with the RS's fitted - what are your thoughts on it??

Has anyone fitted an MZ yet?? ive heard different thing about both of these, dunno if there true or not.. .

MZ locks easier than the RS
RS can be set to a higher percentage lock than the MZ

MZ is 'harsher' than the RS

also anyone thats had one fitted where did you get it done, and what setting did you apply, and why??

According to Cusco the MZ is the one to have for drifting, but dont the option lads use the RS??

Any thoughts appreciated :)

Jason

MZ, more aggresive and cheaper. ask Glen how cheap:)

not sure that the RS has a higher percentage lock? but it does last slightly longer beetween overhauls.

Option only fit the RS because when comparing prices they saw it was more than the MZ, and assumed it was better!

my MZ is getting fitted as soon as I get some VLSD output shafts.

I'm sure that wouldn't be the reason Brett has one on his S13. In the end there isn't much between the price anyways. I've had my RS on for about a month now, just haven't had a chance to try it at a drift day in the dry :(

Anywho Brett runs a Nismo SSS on his S14 so you can't say that Option fitted the RS because its more expensive and must be better. They will fit an MZ for you if thats what you want.

what sort of service intervals?? if you mean changing the diff oil then its every normal oil change isnt it??
never heard any mention of servicing them?? i assumed that youd just have to do more frequent oil changes and thats it.. obviously there not goingto last 100k or so...

also how did you decide on what percentage lock to have applied anyone?? and what have you got?? :)

Oil change is around 3/4k miles. The overhaul will depend on how often you drift. If you drift every weekend, I think it's about every year that you should get an overhaul.

I don't think there is any need to change the locking percentage away from how it comes as standard as its not hard to get it to lock anyways.

how can you tell it needs an overhaul?? ?
I think in the Drift Bible the way they show it is by the turning circle of the car how it should be nice and tight, this is where they also say about overhaul periods... I'm sure someone here can give a better answer then that though...

AFAIK it's just like a slipping clutch Jason, you'll know because the diff will start opening up and slipping more.

it wasn't bretts S14 I was talking about, it was my old S13 that he owns, that has an RS in it now, I asked him why he got it and gave the above answer.

I don't think the breakaway torque is adjustable on cusco diffs is it? Nismo only AFAIK? it is adjustable between 1,1.5 and 2 way, depending which type you get.

oil change is every 3k or less if it gets louder/locks less. overhaul is noce every 2-3 years, again if it starts sounding different and not locking you need new plates.

To be honest, youre supposed to change the oil in your aftermarket Mech LSD's every 3 months if you use it alot (ie, Japan style alot). Every 6 months is my preferred interval, but you can tell when it needs an oil change as it will start to perform poorly when locking up in either direction. Usually an oil change will fix the problem, unless youve left it too long and then trouble can arrise... (unless you have a TRD one, then it'll just stop working regardless of oil change)

TRD or Cusco MZ / RS

how many different type have you been driven dude?? what do you think is more suitable for newbie, TRD one is very temped coz of the price. what do you mean by stop working?? sounds like it got it's own mind.

When getting a mech diff installed, can you just send the diff and casing off or do you need the whole car there (if that makes any sense to anyone??) i didnt know if you needed to do stuff to it on the car???

MZ mate, took a lot of thinking about believe me... :) im sure some people will say its the wrong one, but from what ive heard it should be just what im looking for... i cant wait to get it on.... next week with a bit of luck....
