Cusco Mech diffs - MZ or RS

good choice lad! you won't be hearing from me that you chose the wrong one! unless mine blows up/disintegrates randomly

aha ha! so you have one too??! excellent :D is it noisy?? i hope so, i dont trust things with moving parts in them that dont clonk and rattle  :D

its still being fitted  its a major ballache, idea no.1 was to put it in spare open diff that was getting in the way, therefore not have the car off the road for more than a few hours while swapping pumpkins. This plan failed miserably when the place assembling it told me the open output shafts were the wrong length:( then my gearbox died, so I thought as it was off the road anyway I'd get it put into the S14 VLSD diff that was on the car, thinking the output shafts would be the same for any S chassis VLSD. WRONG! too many splines  so now I'm trying to find some output shafts from an S13 VLSD, not easy as most people sell them complete and want daft money for them  you'll probably have yours in before me!

they are loud as feck though, James' GZE corolla had one and people would turn and look when you were driving round town or trying to park! haha

lol excellent :) funnily eonugh it isnt the most discreet car as it is at the mo so no change there then! i cant wait now, my VLSD is playing the role of an open diff at the mo, shes a bit worn bless :) :)

When getting this fitted, can i simply send the diff off and get the bits installed like that, or would they need the whole car??

and i know theres some sort of running in procedure, ie figures of 8 etc etc but im not sure what.. can anyone elaborate for me?? :)

As I understand it they will need the whole diff and casing as a whole to install the pumpkin...

Not able to confirmt he running in procedure though sorry mate. James / Mitto / Phil will know though

yea thats what i thought, i just wondered whether the whole car would be required or if i could just send me diff bits and bobs off.. :)

also why is it called a pumpkin!?!?

Basicaly to run it in drive round in figure 8's on and off the throttle if its a 2 way so all of the clutch plates get used. Keep going for about 30 minutes you should feel the diff get more agressive as the time goes past.

I then drove mine on the road for about 150miles and swap the oil.

excellent, looks like tescos car park in the middle of the night it is then :D.. 30 mins, fook, ill be dizzy! :D

ooh, excellent steve
does that mean the initial torque can/ needs to be adjusted before it goes in the diff casing???

I believe on some diffs it can be adjusted with the diff still on the car and one of the halfshafts out

I think unless you know what youre doing with diff settings I'd leave it as it comes from the factory. Its gonna be a massive difference to the stock diff whatever the settings are.

steve i know what im doing with diff settings, ive got GT3 now you know  :D :D

yea fair play ill leave it be...

I don;t think Cusco LSD's have adjustable torque anyway, so don't worry! check if its set to 2 way or 1.5 or 1 way though, it would be a bit of a ballache to find out it was et to 1 way after you start driving it!

hahah I didn't check that the fist time I put mine in. I thought about it so much I took it out again and found it was already set to 2 way.
