Drift Project so far...

Ah that stuff takes me back(even tho im not old) to my Toyota college days! Shame we werent allowed to work on our own cars to train!

Your not joking!
That car must have been owned by an old person who just pottered around!

Nice work dude!

I dont know what the hell the bloke who had it before had done to it. Upon pulling the engine apart weve found:

Headgasket gone on no.4
ringland gone on no.3
tip of a spark plug had been bouning around in no.3
head warped
exhaust valves on 2 and 3 not seating
big end bearings very suspect

plus now apparently the face of the block is warped    Id not even thought to put a straight edge on it really, only checked it as an after thought. live and learn thou i spose.

It would have been cheaper to find a second hand unit, but obviously not as fun..

He must have Ragged it silly to do all that damage, on not serviced it properly.!!

I think the problem came from when i was going through some receipts i got with the car. One from a "motorsport" company who fitted the boost controller.

Boost controller fitted, lo boost setting 0.9 bar, high boost 1.2 bar

I nearly pissed myself when i read that. Standard fuel pump and 1.2 bar do not mix

And the money saved by buying a shitter means more shiny bits :)

Another update :)

This should hopefully be the last update before its all finished.

Really started to get motoring now after having to wait ages for parts, affording things etc.

Block was warped so sent it off to get straightened. All back and nice and flat with the pistons in:

The head had real problems with the valve seats. One of the seats was oval ffs and took alot of cutting and lapping before we could it seating properly. Head on block:

Once that was all done all the rest of the stuff was bolted on and the cams etc timed up. Lost the pics unfortunately :(

Went in today and got the engine in. Decided to fit it with gearbox attached but didnt have a clutch allignment tool so used all my engineering expertise and made this: :wack:

Got the box on and fitted the engine which all went fine and dandy :) Started getting it all plumbed in and wired up but got kicked out as my tutor wanted to go home :dermal:

Engine and box going in:

Engine sitting where it should be:

If youre wondering why the cam cover isnt on yet its because one of the blokes on the project decided to put the cam chain tensioner on upside down and broke it   Got another one on the way and the old one seems to be ok to hold the chain on but when i swap them over i dont want the chain moving.

Have also been busy on the lathe. Because it still had the standard gear knob and i cant afford a nice shiny new one i tea leaved some bar and made my own super size jumbo dildo one. Should be easy to find as my arms are flailing around

Thats about it for the moment, Im waiting for the tensioner which should be here this week. And also need to fit my coilovers when they get here and some new discs. Want to start the engine on friday hopefully. Will no doubt be adding to this thread after that because either:

a. the car wont even turn over
b. the a valve is lodged in a piston because it was timed up wrong
or
c. everything is cool and ready to burn rubber.

Place bets now

cable tie the chain onto the cam sprockets before you start, this should stop it jumping about and messing you up

dude i am really serious now, i fuggin love that gearknob, what would it take to convince you to make one for me...cash would be involved.

They are tied up at the moment, just no point putting the rocker cover on yet as the cable tie will have to come off before i start the engine anyway.

As for me looking like Max out of hollyoaks thats the first time thats been pointed out. Usually i get told im more of an accumulation of Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Jude Law :wack: But ill take cunningham too, despite his secret homo lifestyle he shares with OB and the overwhelming urge i have to hold a pillow over his little brothers face :smash: :smash:

Nick, ill see what i can do. Wont be till after easter thou as i break up on Friday.

I can make you a MASSIVE shiney alloy knob for £15, but i dont know how a bimmer nob is attached to the gear lever.

If you tell me how (thread size, something else, ?????) then i could make you one within a few days.

I will even make the top round so it slide in and out easier.

ah man your one sexy bitch cheers, i have no clue cos my current gearknob has fallen off, and i cant go measure it because my car has disapeared off to be welded up. but i shall find out when its back, unless some other bmw person like bon bon or moffatt could tell me.

massive shiny knob for £15 is cool cheers
