Everyday drifter

the rest of the guys seem to be stuck on the usual question of "whats a good starter driftcar", TBF if you see it 15 times a week I suppose thats going to happen :D

Most people just expect the starter car to be completely wrecked in a couple of months, even quicker if they attend one day, convince themselves they're a drift king and then go out for abit of streeto :wack:

I know im not a drift king, but i need to start somewhere.

Auto for drifting?.... No way man... Just no lol

Also having a track car and a daily all in one just leads to trouble. It doesn't work quite frankly... Forever mending it and worrying about breaking it in the first place and getting your ass to work and back. It's a night mare IMO. Been there done that. Lol Gotta learn these things the hard way though...

My useless 2 cents...

8k is a lot of money, to me any way. I would probably see about getting two cars if you have room to park one of them up during the week. I'd have a hatchback for daily use, reliable and good on fuel, maybe sporty depending on what you get. And then a skid car for weekends. This does mean two loads of everything but again with 8k it might be do able? I've just bought a Jag S type and insurance is £1400, I'm 19. Car cost £500. So £1900 in total, which would leave you 6k ish to find and insure a drifter. ( I'm going to drift my Jag but I have a company van to fall back on if it goes pop)

If I had one car to do both I would constantly be worrying about breaking down and then losing out on work, but depends if you want to risk it or not.

Again, I'm new to this so 2 cents and all.

Just my 2p worth but assuming you'll be driving the car on the road far more than you'll actually be skidding it maybe something like a 350z GT would be a fair compromise. Something along the lines of this below at around the £5k'ish mark would still leave you with £3k to shell out on insurance etc?

I cant see me getting insured on a 3.5 v6 at this age, though it would be nice.

You're going to get bummed whichever way you look at it mate as I suspect that 19 year olds, rightly or wrongly, are deemed the highest risk. Do some digging around and get some quotes on a variety of cars, you may be surprised.

A few guys on the 350z forums of similar age (20) have managed to get quotes from Admiral around the £1500 mark by speaking directly with their call centre in Wales rather than their overseas department (which had previously quoted £3400).

Thanks Alot mate, im going to have a good look around, see what quotes i can get.

To answer your question directly - 8k should pick you up a fairly sorted S14A with a chunk of change for insurance / spare tyres etc.
But to mirror what most have said on here: Pick up a nice daily car & a cheap shitter for drift practice.

I started by using my 328i turbo on my first ever drift outing & nearly shit myself!
I was scared I was going to break something I'd invested 3 years & a mountain of cash building.
First thing I did was go looking for a cheap mx5 to practice in until I was more confident in the 328i turbo.
(Truth be told I ended up with a 318is for £50 that came up for sale at the right time (& skids nicely!))

Everyone seems to be suggesting this, im not going to ignore this advice.

Maybe, if you can get insurance at your age.
Prices have shot up, and insurance is £rape (if you can find a company who will actually quote you)
