Todays update: Parts and shakedown weekend

Ok, cant be too long but an update has been over due..

Friday evening I got home from work to find a missed parcel note from FedEx saying bits from america had arrived..

I had to load the car, sort my hydro issue, swap my front wheels, drive an hour to matt carters to help Dylan and autodanny remove the cage from yoshi.. and all before 8pm.. It was 6.45 when I got the note form fedex.

..naturally, I decided screw all that and drove to the fedex office to collect my goodies! lol :smokin::wack: Priorities an all.

Got there.. got my package and found these SEXY things inside..

M.A.S.S.I.V.E thank you to Justin Pawlak for putting these together for me, sorting out all the sourcing crap and then spraying them without me even asking!! :worthy::worthy::worthy::worthy:

Cant wait for the next delivery. :smokin::thumbs: Hoping to get these on before the end of the week (Hi Dylan!! :p)

Went over to matts stupidly late after sorting all my stuff for the weekend and found Dylan,Matt and Danny had litteraly just finished up removing the cage, so i brought maccy D relief lol.

Saturday morning we went and picked up another S body for the TG massive as Daz had bought a project 13.

then some fettling on the cars like re-bleeding brakes and other bits and loading up matts s14 then off to pod.

Shake-down 1: POD

Pod was er.. interesting. It was foookin packed, it was rubbishy weather being bright then rain then bright then hail then cloudy n all that crap.

Add to the traffic at pod some teething issues with the car.. Pod was the first time I had tried 17s on the boggo FC powers.. and it struggled. Or I thought it did.. after some scary loss-of-power moments and bogging down/resistance we had brainstorming and narrowed it down to fueling. I had not drifted on less then a 3rd tank before and with no time to go fill up and try.. I just 'hoped' that was it and would find out tomorrow.

The only other issue was scrubbing.. It seemed my arch mods were not high enough OR the coils needed more dampening/preload. Apart from that she seemed ok.. snappy at times but that seemed to be down to the power delivery/fuel issue.

so a Mixed testing session.
Headed off from Pod to Jords house as a 'over-nighter' before norfolk. On route however my frikkin sideskirt decided to do a 'fuck you' moment and flew off behind me on the motorway...

..where it promptly got owned by an artic lorry. In fairness it could have been alot worse, it only caught one side, so I threw what I had recoved in the car and headed onto Jords.

Jords

After I arrived I asked if he had a hammer i could mod the arches with and a few cable ties to rebuild the skirt (as I had run out during day) and he offered for us to take it to his workshop! :worthy:

Sure enough we did where moocho fettling occured.. the photos of which you have probably seen earlier in the thread. Arch problem not solved but severly reduced to nearly perfect, the front wing was catching on passenger door so we sorted that, few other minor tweaks and then finally rebuilt the skirt.

big thanks to him for the help, the spare bed for the night and to his good lady Naomi for the dinner.. oh and the dog for the leg loving..:D

Norfolk
Well.. what can I say. Massive change from the saturday. Loverly weather.. frikin TONS of track time! Big thx to Roger Cooling and his crew for the help, the tyre lending and general friendlyness.

Car did very well, especially in the heat. only issue to arise was a seeping oil leak from turbo feed which I sorted. Seems to do well on the 17s even with the massive 235/45's on an 8j. lol tractor spec yo!

hoping the 225s on the 9j/10j shouldnt scrub and be good for round one. Only time will tell.

Further update after tonights fettling:wave:

Can i ask what the difference is between those and stock ones Phil, will you take pictures of those and the stock ones so we can see the difference please. I'm guessing the legth of the steering arm and the position of the track rod end hole looking at those pictures?

That is if they are different :wack:

Another thing i've been meaning to ask, when fitting overfenders, why don't people take out the original arch to the line of the inner tub, then weld a peice of plate to the tub so it comes out further that the original fender, then weld the fender to the plate. Then even if there is a scrubbing issue the tyre is rubbing on a flat suface not an edge if you chop and weld.

Its not like it would be visable under the over fenders...

common sense really...

sweeps your a legend!!!!!!!! :worthy::worthy:

sweeps ftw everyone....

did you sort out the fueling problem? Sounds like a common one if its happening with not a lot of fuel in the tank. If you pop over to MRC and search or even ask you should be able to sort it :D

Also what fuel pump are you using? If your running the stock one i'd at least look at re-wiring it, there should be a guide on fc3s pro.

As DtheB shows int he pic, thats one of the differnces but the key to it all is unlike Most knuckle/spindle changes, these have been measured for my exact setup or rods and ends and 'in theory' are at the angle needed to massively reduce ackerman, get maximum clearance and therefor more tread on the track, as well as uber lock.

if you just cut and weld short as u can you end up in steering deathland.

cos I cant weld or get to a place that can weld in time.
nor do i have cash to pay anyone.

its stock atm as I dont have engine management to sort the overfueling it would produce. I do havea walbro somewhere but i dont wanna fit it and upset the wizards inside my engine. Unless I'm advised otherwise ofc.

OK so tonights update:

I set about with limited time and light to sort the cars front end setup. I noticed in alot of the pics the car is STILL squating quite badly..

I increased the rear dampers to halfway (8 clicks) and would up only about 3turns of preload as im not sure how mcu effect this has at the shakedown weekend.. so i went about doing simular to the front..

So off came the first front wheel. First thing i noticed was the spring on the coilover was loose. By loose I mean I could shake it and both the collars moved! So I would the till the spring was hand tight, then about three turns with the coil-key thingys.

I then dumped the front about 1 fingers worth.. I'm going to do incremental drops to see A: If i can get off my drive & B:if hteres enough preload/dampening for hte fronts not to jump up and smash the fenders to bits! :smash:

So with the coilover set, I bolted on the new front spacers. :D
The idea being to increase my track and the clearance needed for it not to scrub on the inner arches finally (this was something it suffered from badly at the shakedown weekend).

You can see where on both inside and outside lock it fouls the arches.

I then did the same on the other side matching the coils measurements best I could. Again the spring was loose. so glad I checked!

Anyway.. after the spacers this is the cureent stance:

And Finally the Lock.. Obviously not incredibly more but still noticeable And Im not at the tie-rod max!

A little comparison from start(ish) to now so far:

Tomorrow I will be fitting the rollcage padding, offering up cutoff's and trying to figure out how to mount up the kill swith and oil catch tank.

chow for now:wave:

hmm its a tricky one. The problem is that if the stock one fails, or has a hicup and leans out the mixture you could be looking at a new engine. Running rich isn't usually a problem. Though once again before you change anything, ask on the forum.

Also you still got the stock front bumper? I'll pm you if you do
