Why be insulting? I'm not trying to show off, I only updated this thread to say what I've done in the interest of people not wasting their time replying with any more MX5 advice seeing as I've already bought something else now. I've explained my reasoning for buying an M3 - it is going to be my daily driver plus occasional drift day car. Yes its not the perfect car to "learn drifting" in but like I said I've no desire to become the next drifting world champion or do anything more than just occasionally have a bit of fun going sideways. I understand most of you take it more seriously than that and put more time and effort in to it than that, but please don't insult me just because I don't want to do the exact same thing.
I am grateful for the advice people gave and I was listening, but what is so wrong with what I've done? I did research and found that an MX5 would be good, so I went to test drive one and after that just knew I wasn't going to enjoy doing drift days in that after doing my first one in an M3 last year, so I decided I wanted to get another M3 (which I'm trading my daily driver and a Lotus Elise in for, its not like I'm saying I just bought it with pocket change that means nothing to me). Why does that make me a cock and a dick and an idiot? If I don't mind risking damaging an M3 then what's wrong with me doing drift days in it? When I did the drift day in the M3 last year I didn't damage anything, other than a tiny scuff and a stone in the brake disc which came out pretty quickly.
Annoys me that people feel the need to insult someone for not doing exactly what they would do. I am sorry if I've come across as a show off or a cock - that was not my intention, like I said I just thought I'd update the thread with what I had done. I'll know better in future...
Also if I had just been planning to buy an M3 all along just to "show off", why would I have spent ages asking about MX5s and BMW 325i and LSDs etc? I don't see how any of those posts were a thinly veiled attempt to show how well off I am. I was genuinely looking at those and I was listening to your advice on them, but like I said after test driving one and thinking about it, I just decided I'd be happier with an M3... and as I can afford to swap my current cars for one (again not trying to show off, just stating a fact) then why not do it? Why does everyone on the internet have to be so insulting and angry... can't you just say "glad you found something you like" or "thats cool that you're willing to risk it" etc. No, that would be too pleasant for a forum wouldn't it.
