Maude the mx5

Oh also have a non pas rack to fit as well.

Nope nope nope. Manual rack is hell compared to the PAS rack depowered. Swapping from manual to De-powered is probably the best thing I've done to my mx5. Also the tie rods are larger so you won't be fitting your lock spacers on a manual rack. Loop the lines on your PAS rack and be done with it.

rack spacers on or should I say some washers
Did you check the outer diameter of these mate? They look pretty big to me for going back inside the rack? looked like there was only about 1mm of a difference between the shaft and the external rack?
Good effort on cleaning it though I couldn't be arsed with that, was just gonna get messy again anyway haha.

Yeah, those rack spacers don't look like there going to work dude, need to be the same diameter as the rack piston, not the track rod ends.

A hydro is needed in ANY drift car once you pr at a level where you need it, if your starting out and still learning you just need to learn how to flick and catch and clutch kick.

I've been having a bash at it now for 2 years and only started jabbing on my hydro when want to enter a corner much much! Faster than you can with a simple flick, not only is the hydro used to lock the rears when entering the corner but also used to slow the car down if needed wile sideways.

So the comment a hydro is 'never' needed in a mx5 is rubbish.

Get some practice under your belt and you will soon learn when to pull on it, best of luck

I don't agree that you can enter faster on the wand than with a flick. Easier yeah, faster, fuck no. No reason why either.

Also, with modded hubs £110 these days from mintfab, fuck knows why people still bother with rack spacers that give nowhere near the lock and needs the rack de-powering for it to last more than a few drift days.

For a £5er you can't really complain tbh. Visually the lock difference it made was fuck all but I can push the back end out a fair bit more past where it would normally spin. As well I personally would rather learn to control the car without all that increased angle so I'm not relying on modded steering for the way I drive. Each to their own though.

i run both modded hubs (dori professor) and rack spacers (bladworks) with power steering and its still working fine...with a nice amount of lock too.

Then why do 90% of people's builds on here have them?????? :/

Because 90% of people on here have never and will never drift. Their 'scene' cars that 'drift' in the odd car park so they can come on here and tell people about the massive skills...

Your wrong

Its 95% of people on here ;)

i still dont know how to adjust my handbrake

Ok I get it there's a good chance I'm never to use my hydro unless I'm in a car park life styling. I'm still fitting it tho! Came across this video earlier it's from 2011 but iv never seen it before looks like a good little track. MX5 drift - Crail 08/10/11 - Filmed in RetardoVision™ on Vimeo. Some more bits n bots have been delivered this week. Some lovely cheap n nasty 155/65/14
So iv herd slowing down is not my friend n all that but my brakes have fully had it so got some bits to try give them a bit of life. Got some 1.8 carriers new discs and pads all round went with yellow stuff pads and genuine discs and super blue fluid . Also the diff is poly bushed so I thought id stiffen up the engine mounts with some of these got some rad hoses as well, one of mine got a little pin hole in it got one of these as well noticed mine was ripped when the diff went back on. That's it for now the 7th isn't that far off now!

So when coming down the hill at Lydden hill at 80/90mph the bdc boys don't sit on the hydro to get more points and angle into the corner?

I'm not saying you NEED one to drift atal as like everyone said, it's a matter of plenty of speed and flick it, but if you have then got that down to a tee and want to enter with a longer slide and so on some form of locking the rears are needed

Longer slide sounds good! 80mph, I'm gonna need a lot of practice to be hitting stuff that fast :-/.

Drifting is all about enjoying yourself.. Yeah 90% of people dont need a hydro, but as long as they're having fun who cares.. IMO there is no right or wrong way to drift..
