My 1990 Eunos Track / Drift project

Another update :

I start a new job next week, and finished at my old one yesterday, so Ive got a few days off inbetween. Decided to spend most of today on the car.

After loads of messing around, trrying different things, and loosing count of how many times the words "sh1t" and "fcuk" were heard :) I finally got the seats in !

Something to remember is that the driver and passenger side runners on an MX5 are slightly different, so you cant just expect to copy the drivers one and it'll work :wack:

There fitted, got the harnesses in and padded the Cage - I think its looking pretty mean now :D

I think the hardtop is gonna go now actually, I think i prefer the car without it, so if you know anyone who wants a factory hard top in classic red, with all the fittings let me know

Oh, and my new clutch arrived today, so as soon as I can borrow a ramp ill throw that in :)

Edit : and I could do with a nice aftermarket exhaust if anyone has a spare one lying around

Comments welcome as usual :)

Cheers,

N

Looking good!!!

Didnt realise the runners were different??? must admit when i made mine i did one at a time cause i wasnt sure if i was only going to put 1 seat in.

Ive got a friend in telford that owns maztek, i will ask him tommorrow for you to see if hes got an aftermarket exhaust for you:nod:

Nice roadster Nick, liking what you've done so far. Let me know how much you are looking for the hardtop please!

That would be great mate :)

Sidewindow - I paid a little over 2k for the car, I sold the 16's, style bars and the windbreak on eBay and made over £300 back.

cmyk - I was going to put the hardtop on eBay, but Im going to put it up for sale on here for £350 if anyone is interested.

are you pleased with it? How did it handle before and after coilovers? Enough power to get drift action? Does it understeer much?

Yeah I love it actually, a lot more than I thought id would !

It has an LSD, but its not the best and its probably a bit worn out now, enough for a bit of sideways fun, but the clutch is ruined on mine so it doesnt go sideways at all at the moment heh.

I was supposed to be getting a Cusco 2-way for mega cheap, but it didnt work out :( If your thinking of getting one just for drift then youll need to weld the standard diff or get an aftermarket one.

Now ive got some decent tyres on it and set the ride height / damping etc it handles really well, doesnt really understeer too much (mine has strut braces all round as well)

The real test will be when I get it on track, was supposed to be doing Donnington on Friday night, but with this clutch its not happening :( Im going to the Nurburgring for a week on the 21st May, so that should be a nice little run out for it :)

I went for a Eunos after being bugged to get one by a mate, he's worked for a couple of specialists, has a BBR Turbo MX5 and raced in the MX5 scholarship this year, so you can tell he rates them pretty highly :)

so yours must be an import then if it has an LSD? As far as i know the UK ones have open diffs and imports have VLSD? You've done yours well looks good. I am looking for a track car and am thinking of getting either an MX5/eunos or mr2 mark 2, can't decide which but they're both around the same price with similar mileage and age. MR2 more trendy but its hard to find a good UK t-bar. Problem with mx5 is the lack of power and shit image but can always add a turbo. would be good to hear how you find it on the track in terms of power
Cheers

You guys need some JDM dishness in your lives ;)

Will have some action pics of mine in the next 2 weeks, either that or some nice pics of it on it's roof.

Yep looking good, this one has just arrived for me here, won't clear the docks til end of next week but as far as I understood, all eunos roadsters came with an open/vlsd but past 94 they have a torsen lsd.
Adam - I also am a big fan of the jdm dishyness!!!

Another quick update :

Not too much to report, and no pics, but did a bit of work on the car yesterday.

Gave the old girl a service and changed the cambelt, runs really sweet now, engine is so quiet ! Found a small fuel leak as well which we sorted.

Arranged to borrow a ramp next Saturday to fit the new clutch, going to change the box and diff oils as well, and order some redstuff pads and 5.1 fluid to stick in while were at it.

Only 2 weeks until Nurburgring now, hope I get it all sorted !

Cheers,

N

Another update

Did some more work on the car this weekend. Was meant to be borrowing a ramp to get the new clutch in, but the guy let me down as the last minute.

Luckily, one of my mates has a unit, and he saved the day :worthy:

"Team Eunos" got the car in the air, ready to get the box off :

Here they are hard at work (while I just hung around taking photos :smash: )

This might have something do to with the slipping :wack: :

All sorted now, car drives great and goes sideways again!

Off to the 'ring on Sunday, cant wait :)

good progress, enough power for getting it sideways now? looking forward to hearing how the ring trip goes. how close is the hard/soft top to the cage by the way!

i have a 2way diff in mine, makes all the difference.
do u notice any difference handling wise with the hardtop?
