Nice Starter Drift Car?

Well, im, 16! Dont get me wrong though, im not the kinda guy who puts a huuge spolier and a new exhaust on a 1.2 corsa.
Yeah i know, i probs wouldnt be able to get a RWD as a first car, insurance and that...
but any ideas as a second car?
amd budget...
i dunno, i guess i could do about a grand maybe more!, and slowly make modifications to it
cheers!

I'm in the same position as you ;D
I think I'm gonna' get a s13 and just trailer it to drift days etc..
and obviously get a job to pay for it all.. (lol)

haha sweet man :)
yeah sounds like thatll have to be your second car though!
well, i couldnt get an s13 as a first, insurance would be through the roof!
unless your rich, we have to face that our first cars,
will be shit.
haha

i quite like an mr2, but due to the mid engine, its not as ideal for drifting as a front engined car!
haha :D

First drift car at 17? volvo 340 or (better still) volvo 360. 340 comes in 1.4 (weak) or 1.7 (not tooo bad), and the 360 is best in 2.0 form, I like the saloons personally.

yeahh, theyre alright i guess!
id rather save the money, and get my second car as a rwd :)
maybe i could pick up a cheap 200sx or something?

Seat time is what matters when you get down to it with drifting - meaning clutch kicking a little 1.7 volvo around on an airbase is going to get you far further than buying a gay FWD car and razzing around in that for a year.

You don't need to limit yourself to a shitty Volvo as so many tend to think.

If you use your imagination , you can. If my personal experience (I spent months trying to work out the perfect first car), insurance prices not vary too much between 1600cc - 2000cc cars as long as they're not turbocharged.

There are a couple of "sleeper" cars that are ridiculously cheap to insure, for example you can have an Aristo, VR4 Galant and 2.3l "turbobrick" Volvo for the same price as a 1.6 Saxo (I kid you not), so if you find yourself something usual that you like, you may just be able to snag some affordable insurance!

As suggestions for a First Car, you're not going to find anything better than an MX5. The insurance is cheap enough for our age, there is a very healthy aftermarket for them and they handle like they are on rails with minimal tinkering - If I wasn't such a big chap and haven't been dropped enough times on my head as a baby to think £2500 is a reasonable amount to pay for insurance, I'd have one in a heartbeat because they are just so "Right". But for now I'm sticking with my first love, a A70 Supra :)

Oh, and If you like MR2s, go for one (bear in mind, you're limited to just MK1s. I've had more luck getting decent quotes on a Twin turbo supra than an NA MK2 MR2 :euge:)

Don't buy a car just to drift. Buy a car that you like for it's own merits, if it can get sideways that's just a bonus.

cool thanks alot papercutout + dons1mpson!
yeah the thing about seat time is a point!
and i wouldnt just buy it to drift, id buy a car that i like, that can drift.
and the sleeper cars?
tell me more haha!
:D

Sierra or Volvo if your only 17 and want a RWD car.

Why bother trailering a car? A decent trailer costs loads, then the cost of the car and having to get someone who can trailer it all the time?!!? madness! just buy a cheaper car u can actually drive, you'll learn most driving it day to day anyway!

Buy my volvo ready to drift taxed motd and stickered up lol

new welded diff /lowered buckets seats.

meant the other guy who said he was going to trailer a car about  you've got the right way of thinking, but you can get a cheap rwd for first car! Spin-kings volvo would be perfect.

But why bother with a Volvo (which is let's be honest, is a little bit shit) when you can have an MX5 for not much more (insurance wise)?
