Nice Starter Drift Car?

Do your parents drive?

If they're with Direct Line (or some others that do this), they could insure it for you, then put you down as the named driver. But, with Direct Line, you can still make your own no-claims bonus and the like. It's definatly worth asking for if you can, £230 on my MX-5 is pretty nice at my youngtacular age :).

Oh, and about the cars. MX-5s will out do any old Volvo any day! Fact! Fast accelarating, 7.2K redline, handles like a Go-Kart FUN!

Ah cool :)
yeah ill definetley look into that!
Sweet, you got an MX-5? :D

get a volvo , strip it out ,deck it and weld it up son

my volvo was my frist car all declaired (stripped, buckets, harnesses, welder, minilights, exhaust, cage) and it cost me £1600 to inshure when i was 17 which was £1000 cheaper than a 1.2 feister or simila gaynes car

Cool :)
not bad!
i dont like too much the look of a volvo, but as a first RWD car, i cant complain about looks!
Thanks, i think ill take a look at some prices for a 340/360.

My E30 was a 325 which would cost a bit for you to insure (£1200) when i was 21.

welshmarts right about a sierratwin cam good drifters.

And i agree volvos look naff but there fun and as they are so ugly (i think anyway) you dont care about dinging it.

yeah you do have a point there
if i want to learn to drift, i dont want to do it in something which i care about smashing
i mean those volvo already look quite crap, so a few bumps and scrapes would be alright. Well, alot better then having up the side of something like an mx-5.

Thats what matters mate, the seat time and that you don't mind bashing it...

My e30 cost me £600, then got the diff welded (garage D plug here), and have been pushing it round sideways a bit since. Just needs lowering and straight through exhaust now (both mods are already stated on insurance).

I'd say get the 2.0 DOHC sierra actually tbh, over the volvo, unless its the 2.0 360, thats the best of the bunch. But its also more expensive to insure.

MX5's aren't cheap at all until you have a years no claims under your belt.

TBH, a sierra, a volvo, an E30 and an MX5 are all ok to learn in.

I`d stop listening to people now, check each car out, see whats cheap, check cost of parts and then pick what you like.

Don`t forget though that while a car might be shonky, you`ll learn more drifting something shit when elarning than you will something good.

Also i`d say forget the mx5. It`ll cost more than the others listed and you`ll out grow it at the same rate. Waste of cash really when you can have a thats as good for less, as you`ll want something more in 9months!

Also they are for hairdressers. Nuff said.

^^ That's weird as e30s are considerably more expensive than an MX5 with NCB. Are you sure you were getting quotes on a UK car?

cool :)
didnt know the sierras where RWD until today haha
yeah i heard you can pick them up pretty cheap though!
:D

They defiinately are RWD and skid well, as you can see from the pics mins is already a bit bashed up, but I had the best of fun doing it as I didn't care and Sierra's are cheap and easy to repair. I have skidded mine for a year now and its already to go, stripped out with bucket seats and a welded diff, what more could you ask for. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.

The reason one would out grow a Serria or Volvo is because there is virtually no aftermarket other than cut springs and shoe horning in another engine. A five on the other hand has an aftermarket that will keep anybody happy, and best of all you avoid paying astronomical scene tax.

And what exactly would you class as more? A equally capable car with that all important "Nissan" badge stuck on it?

Agreed:thumbs:
Volvos rock, I bought one and had the time of my life.
And dont let anyone tell you they dont drift, mine had a totally standard engine and look at the results.

No offence, but i've seen quite a few people drifting (or trying to) mx5's standard and uber power ones and a lot of people skidding volvo's and every time the volvo's have been more impressive! and the people in the mx5's have struggled, maybe i just saw the wrong people skidding, but i know first hand that volvo's can be better! The strong point of volvos are that you dont worry about hitting things, so can push yourself more and you learn weight transfer because of the stupid suspension and how to drift with little power.

There are aftermarket parts for volvo's now, yeah not as much as mx5's but you can do good things with a volvo now, Mattyboi gave people in skylines and s bodies a run for their money in his volvo, so its bollox if you say you cant do more with them.

But hey, dont know why im trying to persuade you, you'll go for the :euge: MX5 anyway

nahh, i wont be going for any :euge:
after everyones help on here, and what ive just quoted, its totally true what you said: because if in in a shit car, i can push myself more cause i dont have to worry about trashing it... its the seat time that counts, and id rather have a volvo for a few years and be able to push myself, and learn new techniques
rather than drive a softop mazda, and not learn anything because i dont want to scratch it
that way, ill learn my limits, and i can get a way better car later on, cause ill know how to drift better than if i drove the mx-5...

thankyou :D

+1 to lozza.
Every time I see a MX5 drifting, it spends 50% of the time spinning. Don't get me wrong, absolutely fantastic cars, but much better if you want to grip the road as opposed to skidding.
I've been in the volvo with Lozza, and yeah, she had to clutch kick it round every corner, but she didn't spin it much.

MX5's are far more expensive to buy than any of the others too, cheapest I've really seen one was £800, and it needed work.

BMW's good - just drop in a bigger engine when its needed. I've got a 318iS engine 318, and while not being too torquey, it'll certainly spin the wheels a piece of piss, and by the end of the last DWYB I did, I was holding it properly. Burns through petrol rapidly though :(

Don't pass up the idea of an S12 though, thats what lozza's moved onto, cheap to buy, cheapish to insure and skid better than the volvo.

yeah!
right what you said about the mx-5 spin outs!
theyre mid engined, so the back weight = more lilkely spin out!
anybody know the rough price of an old Volvo 360?
and any prices for the mods id have to do to it?
thanks guys :)

wow there, i wouldnt buy a s12 when i was 17! It costs me £780 tpft now and im 20 with 3 years ncb and boobs! I cant see a 17 yr old boy with no ncb insuring one cheaply!!!

I agree on the BMW idea for a 2nd drift car though, i would looovvvee an e30!

yeahh insurance would go through the roof!
even if i end up with some crappy FWD that i get bought, ill definetley definetley talking to all you guys when im out to buy my second car (RWD of course!!!)
thanks again everybody :)
