Nice Starter Drift Car?

BMW E36 316i, my first car and looks cool among your mates with that gay corsa's, a drift BM picks up more whores than a slammed corsa with a spoiler that does nothing, just explain to them the theory behind why you have a spoiler on a 'racing car' that'll get em going..
unless you like boys..

Problem is getting legit insurance at a sane price is damn near impossible. Despite having a market value of a primark shirt in the middle of the January sales and being rather quite slow, it's a BMW, and that's all insurance companies hear on the phone when you get a quote...

I'm personally warming to the idea of a lil' Hillman Imp :).

^ yup they will arse rape you good and proper!

You want RWD go old, cheaper classic insurance cheap tax don't have to worry about emmisons as much as a newer car.

Volvo are good afford to insure a 360 glt (possible) and your laughing cant get insured on a 1.4 340 your not trying hard enough! Nice capri laser 1.6, scimitar GTE!!! v6 power!

I was just thinking yesterday that classics are the way forward for us Young ones.

While buggering around on Lancaster Insurance's site, I discovered a Dolomite spirit is "only" £1100 to insure for me, (a 17 year old Male living in Gaza otherwise known as SE London). Jaguar XJ-S V12? £1200 TR7 V8? £1000. I can't get insured on a Golf for that money...

It is possible to go RWD at a young age, although I didn't succeed in finding an affordable quote when I was 17, at 18 I drove a 2.5 V6 Vauxhall Omega, then my BMW E30 Cosworth 350bhp monster, then my 3.5 V8 Land Rover Defender 90, before moving abroad for a year.

I'm now 21, and only just able to insure my BMW E30 325i Touring! It's a sad state of affairs

If you fancy playing with a welder, and have a bit of mechanical and engineering knowledge, stick a bike engine in the Imp!

They're rear engined to start with, so everything is in the right place.

Can be done reasonably cheap, with phenominal results! :smokin:

first drift car

yo this is bubba i am looking into getting my first drift car. i will have about 3500 by the end of june 09. so now i have been thinking of rx7 and a 240sx. there are two cars i am going to look at one is the rx7 1988 stock everything with 130K miles on it. the other is a 240 sx with 160000 1991. i wanted to get a well educated persons perspective on the matter before i just went and bought it. it is kind of a gift to myself cus it is my 21st birthday. the 240sx is also 3500. however this is the listing for the 240 sx it has a few upgrades

*New turbo,intercooler,radiator,dual electric fans,battery.
*Mines Ecu (Best of the Best)
*Carbon fiber hood & spoiler with hood pins
*Boost gauge.

what do you all think. also are there cars that i may be overlooking for that pricerange please let me know email is schwaner@buffalo.edu

I've got a Sierra with a welder, it's great. What I've spent on it to make it skid.......

£350 - Ford Sierra 2.0 Pinto EFi for the car with tax and test

£500 - Gaz coilovers

£free - Got a mate to weld the diff

.......I'm franky rubbish TBH, but the Sierra provides more than enough thrills.

Benefits - Cheap parts, easy to fix, lots of after market stuff (all cosworth suspension parts fix), pinto/twinky both very hard to kill, Pinto well tuneable

Bad stuff - Crap all lock, the steering doesn't self centre well!

Any BMW is a good bet E30, E36 or E34. IMO an E34 525 is a great car with plenty of skidding potential, plus they are cheap as chip :D

you sound american, why would you ask on a uk site for car values in america, who's gonna know :wack:, plus you also want people to email their replys to you :wack::smash::rolleyes:

Before you do anything make a list of as many 'Low-Budget' RWD you can think of, next get on to a cheap online insurance company (Ive always found Cheap Online Car Insurance UK | Home Insurance Quotes | elephant.co.uk to be very cheap but there's plenty out there) and just sit there for the next few hours punching in details.

Id be suprised if you could get anything other than the Volvo 360 under £700 for a new driver. Unless bank of mum and dad is paying you may be limited about where and what you can buy.

For get anything Japanese with 2doors like 180's 200's etc as they wont touch you

Hey, i have a few questions:

1: At the moment i have a mini one, will this be able to drift?

2: For my next car, i was thinking about a escort? Will that be able to drift? Or should i try get a sierra or something like that?

Cheers

If you're willing to pay for a MK1 or MK2 then sure. If you were thinking about getting a later one see the above answer :).

mk1 or mk2 of escort?

i was looking at sierra's and they look quite nice, in a nutshell what you can recommend for decent cars for beginners
