Nice Starter Drift Car?

yeah!
right what you said about the mx-5 spin outs!
theyre mid engined, so the back weight = more lilkely spin out!
anybody know the rough price of an old Volvo 360?
and any prices for the mods id have to do to it?
thanks guys :)

340 or 360 go for about as cheap as you like if you search around the papers and auto trader, can pick them up for as little as £150 but i sold my drift ready 340 for £500 with 12 months mot. All the mods you need are... welded diff (first and foremost, it does almost bugger all without one), bucket seat and then lower it on springs on the front and blocks on the rear (i believe 360's are blocks too).

In case you dont know, as i remember someone asking what a welded diff does, it makes it so that both the back wheels spin at the same time rather than the inside wheel spinning when it loses traction, i thinkkkkk! Someone can probably explain it better.

The reason one would out grow a Serria or Volvo is because there is virtually no aftermarket other than cut springs and shoe horning in another engine. A five on the other hand has an aftermarket that will keep anybody happy, and best of all you avoid paying astronomical scene tax.

And what exactly would you class as more? A equally capable car with that all important "Nissan" badge stuck on it?

No aftermarket for a Sierra?!.... You do know they were one of the most successfull race and rally cars ever? There's ENDLESS amounts of parts for Sierras.

wow the fucking cheap!
yeah, ill definetley be going for a volvo then :)
im off for the night anyway
cheers for today everybody, helped me make some decisions haha
bye!

wow there, i wouldnt buy a s12 when i was 17! It costs me £780 tpft now and im 20 with 3 years ncb and boobs! I cant see a 17 yr old boy with no ncb insuring one cheaply!!!

I agree on the BMW idea for a 2nd drift car though, i would looovvvee an e30!

I love mine, apart from the broked front fan, the front splitter falling off every time I hit a cone, and more importantly the oil pissing out the engine... Other than that its a bundle of laughs! MOT's tomorrow though, *eek*

ID, go try the sierra too, but they are more to insure.

And yes a welded diff essentially locks the rear axels so they can only spin at the same speed, as opposed to an open diff where, as Lozza said, the inner wheel will spin faster.
Only time I've noticed it making a real difference is going less than 20mph.

you're making the right decision, however at your age and for your insurers, it is pretty much the only decision.

The good thing is that they are only packing 80bhp, so you cant drift using power, so you have to drift using momentum instead.

The good thing about that is drifting a 340 will be a serious learning experience. i'm not going to lie to you, you will find it difficult, but that will just make it all the more rewarding when you do (and you will) get it right.

However, the best thing is once you know how to drift a 340 you will be able to drift anything else. I'm actually quite jealous of you in a way, you have the opportunity to aquire unique skills and you have time on your side. If I could do things again, I would get a 340 when I was 16 too.
Best of luck,
astraboy.

Thats the most retarded thing ive ever read.

About 200 times more stuff for a Sierra, one of the most sucsessful race and rally cars ever, than a faggy MX5...

come on get a mk5 cortina 1.3 super cheap insurence (should be able to get classic insurence) drop a 2.0pinto in it cheap conversion, make sure it's brown retro is well cool! if your mates dont get it fk them. = cool, retro, plenty of grunt, different, sorted. be different have not seen one of these skidding yet!

Yep, best fun I've had in.. Well ever :smash:

I'd really reccomend it man, they're so easy to drive as well!

yeah but its kinda expensive as a first car, and i wouldnt wanna trash it!
it seems the car has been higly flamed in this thread anyway, so i dont think ill go for one, not that i was going to anyway!
haha :D

+1 for volvo. My first drift car and taught me loads.

if that doesnt convince you then these videos might
Ace Streeto1 - Putfile.com
Ace twin streeto - Putfile.com
And if any of your friends start taking the piss, take em for a drive. Take it from someone who knows, you'll be the one laughing at the end of it:D
astraboy.

You're a cock. Why would you host videos like that and put them up on the forum when you know that the country's media is currently looking to scapegoat us and the sport.

Could you get any more idiotic right now?:no::no:

I think DW should operate a zero-tolerance policy and ban idiots that post streeto vids.

maybe its because im wrecked......

but, what?

i would say eitha a sierra or a volvo 340/360. i wouldnt mind a 340/360

I know this is an old thread but I'm not feeling all the MX5 hate. They're not so easy to drift at first because they've got a lot of grip and not a lot of power, but once you get used to it they're perfectly capable. Declan used to tear it up in his, which is now owned by Captain Muppet who uses it to good effect. Plus the amount of aftermarket tuning gubbins available is comparable to most of the most popular drift cars. I like to think that these days I've now gotten to a point where I'm no longer making my car look shit.

Though I'll totally agree, they're expensive to buy and insure as a first drift car, and you can't fit many wheels in them. And they're totally gay.
