Nice Starter Drift Car?

Talbot Sunbeams are the tets maaaaaaaan!

If you can get insured on an MX5 for not much more than a Volvo, do it. But I think when you hpone the insurnce companies up - it may be a different story. Internet quotes don't mean sh*t.

I had a 2.0 Sierra when I was 17, with a welded diff and some konis etc etc, and it was the best fun ever. If you can, do that.

But why bother with a Volvo (which is let's be honest, is a little bit shit) when you can have an MX5 for not much more (insurance wise)?

Translated.... I'm young and want to look cool in front of my mates so don't want to drive around in a car that looks like my nans even though its a cheaper better option for my age.

You will crash learning to skid and id imagine its easier/cheaper fixing a volvo than fixing a MX5! Doesnt matter if you get some bumps on the volvo as well it kinda suits the whole look of the car :D but if you smash up an MX5 it'll ruin the whole pretty look.

And i really cant see insurance for a MX5 being cheaper or the same as a 20 year old volvo, when your 17 :smash:

that a 340 or a 360?

Its a 360 matey.

insurance for me on this is £135 fully comp with caral nash and its a 2nd car so no noclaims on it too.

Skids well will try and load the video i have of it up.

I am saving for a ps13 and for me to insure a s13 as a 2nd car was £900 fully comp just not worth it.

older cars seem to run on a fiver for ever Sierra/volvos as such cheap parts and who cars if you dint the shit out of them they dont look good going forwards but look sweet sidways :worthy:

and thanks again everybody!
so far youve all been a good help haha :D

Are mx-5s seriously that cheap to insure?

As long as it's a UK car, yes. In my experience, it will cost you not much more than a shit volvo or Serria, and (for me at least) works out far cheaper than a e30 316 Bimmer.

Imports will set you back a little more, but you'll have to check with individual to see just how much extra you'll have pay.

Do your parents drive?

If they're with Direct Line (or some others that do this), they could insure it for you, then put you down as the named driver. But, with Direct Line, you can still make your own no-claims bonus and the like. It's definatly worth asking for if you can, £230 on my MX-5 is pretty nice at my youngtacular age :).

Oh, and about the cars. MX-5s will out do any old Volvo any day! Fact! Fast accelarating, 7.2K redline, handles like a Go-Kart FUN!

get a volvo , strip it out ,deck it and weld it up son

my volvo was my frist car all declaired (stripped, buckets, harnesses, welder, minilights, exhaust, cage) and it cost me £1600 to inshure when i was 17 which was £1000 cheaper than a 1.2 feister or simila gaynes car
