hi people,
ive got 2 bucket seats in my s13 and no rear seats and a reat strut brace installed,
im waning to put some harnesses in and just wonder how they attatch to the rear brace...
as it cant just loop round can it because it will move from side to side?

please post pics...would love to see em,
cheers,
brad :D

dude that is not a good idea! rear strut braces are not for securing harnesses to!

yeh, just been told that off someone else! cheers for the info, ive seen them before but with a bigger bar between the 2 rear struts, mines just a normal strut brace, i'll be definately just mounting them to the standard rear belt anchor points, not doing anything unsafe....
cheers again,
brad :D

They wont be a bar just between struts. It is done but only on full safety certified cages. Easier just to go off the seatbelt mounting points on the floor

As above, not from strut brace. From rear seatbelt holes is fine though. I have an Apex rear cage with a proper harness bar which I use, its a good 8-10 inches further forward that the strut brace and a whole world more meaty.

rear seat belt mounting points ARE NOT FINE !!!! yes it'll hold them really nice and secure but it puts them at the wrong angle, if you crash theres a chance you could compress your spine as the harness will tug downwards on your shoulders.

Yeah, there is that too :wack: there's info about this on the internet, diagrams & stuff. Something like 20 degree or less from seat is OK, any greater angle and it gets nasty in a crash.

From memory, could be way wrong.

Thats unsafe to mount to the rear seatbelt points. You have to use a proper harness bar or nothing.

i wonder if i could make somthing like a big hardcore strutbrace
or like the harness bars, you used to get in a evo where its removable

There is a bar you can get that goes between the pillars.
Also worth noting than its dangerous to run harnesses on a normal seat. They are not designed to take the stress the harness forces on them.

i think it went from pillar to pillar then had bars coming down that bolted to the bottom where seatbelt bolts to the chassis by the sill

got any links or you on about the evo one?

from what i found the seating mounting points are ok as they not at a big enough angel to cause damage

So technicly, depending on your car...if you dont have a full cage with a harness bar then requiring a harness on a drift day as a saftey thing is actually going to make things a whole load less safe?!

Some cars should in theory be okay depending on the layout...but what about MX5's and such?

you can get harness bars for mx5's

i have a big beefy welded strutbrace. can i weld the supplied bolts to that and bolt my harness there?

Swear this was covered in another thread recently.

If you dont have a proper bucket seat and a cage with a harness bar, don't get a harness seat belt. If you have a proper bucket seat but no cage, use the normal seat belt.

thats a stupid comment
what about a reclining bucket seat and i dont want a stupid cage, i want to be held tight into my seat

also a seatbelt over a bucket seat is w@nk anyway

In what way is that a stupid comment ? Without a proper seat the harness is pointless and without a correctly positioned harness bar the harness isn't going to be attached properly anyway and is more likely to cause more damage than good...

With a good enough bucket seat, why do you need a harness anyway ? You can say its wank but really without a proper harness bar it renders the harness unsafe and therefore you may aswell use your normal seat belt. Also without a cage, if you were to crash and flip over, with a harness you are being help direct bolt upright and can't move, with a normal seat belt you will more than likely be thrown over to the passenger side and less likely get a broken neck/back/face

Hell do what you want...

I'm not sure about this, I've run a 4 point harness in my street cars for 5 years plus, obviously I'm not dead but I haven't been on the roof or smacked hard!

I understand crushing the spine in a crash is very bad, but are 4 points more dangerous than a standard belt? I'd always assumed a harness would be safer in an accident than a stock belt even when it makes me 2" shorter :(

I wouldn't run a harness without a cage.

And i wouldn't drive around with a cage in without a helmet or some ridiculously thick sponj.

Leave track shit for track cars breh.
