Noticed a couple other PS builds on here lately so figured I should throw mine up to. Something I should have done when I first started this project. So here goes..
_____
To start with, I'll jump back in time to the beginning.
I was setting out the fix up my UK spec S13 I'd had for a few months over 2011 winter, until one day I saw my PS13 for sale. I ended up flying to Edinburgh for the day to look at the shell as I wanted to make sure its what I wanted and as described. Sure enough it was and a week later I'd bought it and had one of my trucks from work head up north to collect it. Does help working for a high end car transportation firm.
So in January 2012, this PS13 was in my possession. Imported in 2008 and still un-registered in the UK.
Pics of how it left Japan..
And how I bought her, as a rolling shell
Once in my possession, I sourced an SR20 and 'box along with numerous other parts to begin building her up. PS13 front end, coilovers etc.
Whilst as a shell I took the opportunity to tidy up the underside using electrox zinc primer and deox gel where needed. Followed by a nice top coat. No rust here thank you very much. Also stripped the interior and done the same on the inside.
The SR
Along with the SR came all the supporting requirements and a steady flow of additional parts I needed. FMIC, ally rad, hoses, intake, exhaust, body panels, seats and much more. Eventually after lots of pissing around with looms and ECUs the SR was just about running.. I turned my focus on to the interior, but I'll come to that later.
Fast forward and eventually I was fortunate enough to land myself a nice deal on my own unit so the car was moved in one weekend giving me plenty of space to work and most importantly, somewhere indoors and dry to work! Perfect! Within a week of moving in to the unit, the car had drive and moved under its own power.
Acres of space!
Bought a new diff which I had welded, and got it fitted.
Bought even more stuff. Alignment arms, additional interior parts etc. Sorted some engine issues out. Fitted more bodywork.
Drove it up the road now and then. Made noise.
Started about completing the interior. As said before I already began the interior by removing it and replacing it. I wanted something that was completely my own, albeit not to everyones taste I'm sure. However, its what I want.
I began with the dash and centre console. Sent it all away to be flocked locally and was real happy with the results. While it was away I fitted some new, lightweight carpet in place of the original grey carpet. With the dash back I refitted it. I'd also bought some seats. a DW Cobra Evolution and a DW Cobra Suzuka. Both awesome seats that I've always wanted in my car. Some DW harnesses finished the set.
With that, the seats came out and the cage fitting began. I had the cage sent away at the same time, also to be flocked. Again I was really happy with the cage. Something I hadn't seen done before. Just makes it stand out that bit more.
During this I also got the front and rear lights working. Standard wiring malarky to get it done. Nothing to taxing. Happy.
Soon, with the cage fitted...
...and the seats back in...
...things were coming along nicely!
Fast forward a couple of months and a friend of mine decided to break his 14a after a 3 year build. I had first choice on most of the parts so couldn't refuse the opportunity. More than a couple Gs later I had quite basically, a whole new car underneath.
Completely new front and rear subframes, both powder coated and polybushed along with bushed and coated LCAs front and rear complimented my Apex alignment arms just right. Not to mention the 8 pot D2 callipers and 356mm discs for some extra stopping powers. A nice match for my fully braided brake line setup courtesy of DB Power and HEL.
Not to mention the DW GeoMaster hub knuckles and DW offset rack spacers.. Or the Ikeya Formula Track Rods.
To top it all off, I also bought his set of 18x9.5J ET10 Ultralite Nurburgings. We burnt the midnight oils and everything was removed and fitted with the car back on the floor 4 hours later. Superb. This was followed by ample amounts of photo whoring..
I also gained me some generous amounts of lockage
A few days later, we done the same on the rear.
The old frame was dropped..
...and the new one...
...fitted, along with a newer welded S14a auto diff.
All very good. However I can't drop the rear anymore as the wheels stick out rather a lot. Rolling or fenders are needed.
Much the same up front after having to space the wheels out slightly to clear the coilover.
And this brings us more or less up to date. I decided to splits costs in my unit and I now share it with 2 friends who also have their own builds up there. Theres still plenty of room though!
The car more or less sits like this today.. Minus the wing for now.
Things to do next include finding out why my alternator isn't charging, fitting the 326 Power wing, sorting the power steering leak and a manifold blow. Then eventually an MOT and starting the registration process. And at same a coat of paint to finish it all off.
I'll do a spec list in the post below, partly to separate it from this post, but also for me to be able to keep track of whats what.
Thanks for reading, its been a long one I know! If you like it, or hate it, let me know! Feedback is always welcome.
Hopefully things shall go on as they started out..
